Default Squeal after H/C build

Hey guys, just finished up a cam swap and upon first start there is a squeal coming from the passenger side of the motor. It sounds a whole lot like a belt pulley when its going out, but goes away with any RPM gain. Putting a stethoscope on the valve cover definitely amplifies the sound. Here is a vid of the noise:

The trunions were rebuilt with the Straub bushing kit. I am not sure what could be causing this other than a bad/damaged bushing possibly?

I'd pull off the oil cap first.. If that isn't it, pull the belts. Remember there are two(small one for A/C). Run it just briefly without the belts. Still squealing? Might have a real problem.

See here:

If this is it, you may have the PCV routed incorrectly or just a leak.

By any chance did you reuse the old cam retainer? I had the exact same noise on my gto after my cam swap. Thought it was a belt too but it still made that noise without belts. I saw a thread here about cam retainer plate gaskets wearing or not sealing up correctly. I ordered a new one from summit for $25 swapped em out problem solved.

If the problem doesn't lie in the valve train on that side, ill give the retainer a shot.

How old is the 228r? Could have wiped a lobe if it's an old one, there's been a couple threads on it.

The cam is brand new from TSP. We ran the car again Saturday morning and there was no sound whatsoever. Sooo, I guess problem solved.

Did you prime the engine before start up?

Spoke with the mechanic. He said the engine was primed but assembly lube was not used on the bushings. He also mentioned that the trunion sat for 3 days after soaking in oil before installing it. Im leaning toward lack of lubrication here, not an issue with the Straub kit.

nine8ss- Did you ever determine what your problem was? How did your oil look after changing it for the first time? Did you take any rockers apart to inspect the bushings?

Yes, as a matter of fact I did. We pulled all the bushings and found some damage to one of the bushings. The mechanic said that one of the bushings got caught on the trunnion as he was installing them. It left a lip that he "thought would just go away" after running it for some time. While this was true, it was quite annoying and time consuming.

So the noise went away by itself and you didn't have to replace the bushing? Was there brass in your oil and/or oil filter?

I replaced all the bushings once this was found. There was no brass in the filter or oil.

Good idea replacing them all, that "it should clear up" would make me real nervous.

Clean build by the way, I like the color on the valve covers, block and intake.

Any more pics?

Yea, I didn't want to take the chance of any more surprises so I changed them all.
The heads and intake have since been changed and no longer look as "clean". i'll see if I can grab some newer pics.

No biggie if they aren't easily available. Just wanted to look at the pretty motor
