Default Help with crankshaft question and ls1 build

Hey guys, I'm in the process of building a ls1 for my thirdgen firebird. I bought a 6.0 crankshaft seller claims it's a 02-03 its model ends in 16 I've been reading for hours and the more I read the more confused I get. I know I would have to have it balanced for my ls1 set up. But the long to short shaft (Im pretty sure it's a short crankshaft) has me confused. Enclosed a pic to help identify) for the ls1 to mate with a 4l60e trans is it the short one I'd need? Then use a stock dished flexplate? What would i need to make it work together with a 4l60e? Also being a 97 vette block, would I need a rear cover specific for that year due to the oil holes or any year cover will work? Thank you in advance for your response.

Short. The long flanged 6.0 crank (99-'2000) would be .400" or so longer and would have a casting # of 12552215. That one pictured looks like a 12552216.

64post is correct. It Should work fine for your application. Just be sure to get it balanced.

You do not need any special parts to make it work.

OK great guys thank you for clearing up my confusion. How about the rear cover? Would I need one specific to 97-98 for the oil holes since my block has flush holes instead of the newer style blocks having the notch between the holes?

i believe any standard rear cover would work. The gasket seals around this area any way

The later covers had a larger opening and might be better for oil transfer on a block like that but i have not done it my self.

I took a die grinder (mine) with a carbide burr and ground that oil transfer part of My rear cover a little larger to help facilitate better oiling to the passenger side of the engine . My engine is a 5.3 .030" over with an 2001 LS-6 cam . For now I'm going to have to live with the original oil pump which I ported the intake portion mostly and the output hole just a smidge larger .
