I decided on a reverse split because, without any headwork, given the stock intake track, that's the side that's choked for me.
My goals are a flat, strong torque curve that comes in early. Not terribly concerned with a dyno queen or impressive numbers like 400 horse that don't show up until 6200 rpm, but rather more area under the curve. Also, these specs should give an easily daily-driveable car while still pulling strong all throughout the rev range given my icl and lsa. (i think).
I was just wondering if anybody had any experience with a cam like this. I know the tr230 used to be a similar cam, but was usually on a different lsa (113) and had 30-50 thousandths less lift.
Reverse split cams definitely aren't the trend out there today, but they are proven performers if in the right setup. My cam is a bit smaller than yours, but very similar to one that was even more popular than mine in the early 2000's. I have the TR227, which is a 227/224 .569/.563 113.
The reverse split typically shines when in an intake restricted LS1, that also has a VERY good flowing exhaust. With that, if you plan on keeping your stock unported 241 heads and your LS6 intake manifold, I'd have no problem recommending the cam you listed. It should respond well to the added compression as well. If at any point you think you'll want heads or a new intake, I'd get with one of our sponsors on a more future proof option. I LOVE my cam, but it will be coming out at some point in lieu of a more suitable alternative for my future plans.
The only dyno graph I have available is a bit outdated, but will still give you a good idea of what you'll be looking at. I was able to gain and additional 17 rwhp and 10 rwtq on the same dyno with a ported TB, cutout, 25% UD balancer, and a new lid (Currently 421/391). This did include a new tune, which with the cutout probably netted the majority of the gain...especially considering the cam. Interestingly enough, the new numbers were on a warmer day last summer
**This was also through 4.10 gears in the rear, which has been known to suck up at least 5rwhp**
Tang2, hope you don't mind me throwing your name out there. Your setup is the only one I personally know that's running a cam like this, so you came to mind during this thread
So that graph you posted was with what mods? stock heads, intake and just a lid on the intake side with longtubes on the exhaust side? Or did you have some head work done at that time?
If that's stock heads and intake, that's NUTS! How would you say the driveablity is?

That graph was with ported 853 heads, and all the mods in my signature, minus a cutout, bigger lid (which I didn't keep), ported TB, 25% UD balancer, ORY (previously catted), and a new tune. The things I just listed are what got me to 421/391. My 853 heads are not milled though, and I'm using the GM MLS head gaskets, so compression is factory.

No, it was closed. That was through the Corsa. It's capped, and I don't have an electric opener, so I was lazy and didn't feel like crawling under there to take it off haha!

Yeah, it's pretty loud. More of a pain than anything though. The car feels slower, and the exhaust gets in the car. Lol, I'm getting too old for that crap.
My specs should have 59 degrees of overlap at .006 and 7 degrees at .050.
this is more than say (for example) a torquer v2 at .006 and the same at .050
That being said, it should thump pretty hard!
"lope" was the absolute LAST determining factor when I picked a cam, but it's sort of nice that you can have your cake and eat it too as I hope this cam will have the same output and better manners than most big "thumpy" cams. even if I spread out the LSA to a 113, it would still have 3 degrees @ .050. not bad
Tang how does yours sound at idle? If my math is right, it has -.5 degrees at .050, no idea about at .006. Does it qualify as more of a "sleeper" cam or do you definitely know its there?

I hear ya, but Corsa sounds great IMO, so it's no big loss. I've heard it's somewhat common for a car to feel a little slower with the cutout open, but in all reality it's just the lack of backpressure. You should make a couple more hp up top with it open
