Default Is an aftermarket timing set worth it?

I was planning on upgrading the chain to the C5R chain and the damper from BTR, but is upgrading the cam gear and crank sprocket worth the cost?

We have billet adj timing sets with the c5r style chain for $130. They use a torrington thrust bearing to space the cam gear correctly but alsp to provide less friction between the cam gear and thrust plate. Youll be alot more precise lining these dots up vs the dot to thumbnail like on the stock timing gears.

So aside from the thrust bearing there's no weight or strength benefits from an aftermarket set? (In reference to the gears, not the chain)

Billet steel heat treated gears are much stronger and more precise than the cast stock gears. along with the billet oil pump drive

Can you post a link please, for the $130.00 unit? I need to order this, or PM me the link...

When doing a new chain, I like to use new gears as well so they can develop their wear patterns together. For peace of mind on all three of my LS engine projects I went with upgrading gears and chain from stock. The C5R chain is an excellent choice and looks like WS6 Store can assist with the gear selection. Best wishes with your project.
