Default This Head Repairable?

Hi All,

Sadly last fall my stock ls1 bottom end decided to give up the ghost at the track. I had a piston that wanted out and it left quite a path of destruction...

Curious if we thought this head was repairable? Is there any value to a single good head

Thanks!

Even if it were repaired with a lot of welding, machining for new valve seats, etc., would it be worth it? You might be ahead getting new heads ......
243/799 heads are easy to get.

862/241 heads like our 4th gen ls1's have are inexpesive. I think youcan find a replacementfor less than $100. I have two 862 heads i will send you for $150. I'm sure fixing the damaged head would cost more.

However, for about $400 you can get a set of much better 243/799's.

For about $1200 you can get a good set of used ported 243/799's.

Honestly , I'd upgrade heads.

OK, which will cost more? Repairing the head, or buying a new one?
Simple question, simpler solution....

if it were me i'd fix it, especially if they were performing in way I liked and wasn't looking to upgrade.

it will be a chunk of change to fix it.

both seats have to come out. dye pen for cracks. then weld it and hand blend it. then recut for seats and then spend considerable time cutting the new valves and seats to a similar tip height.

it's a fair bit of work, but 100% doable by the right shop. If you were local to me I could send you to a place that does this and only this.

TEA treated me real good for repairing a head. Head lifted and torched 2 chambers in 3 spots total to the water jackets. Had both heads freshened at that time but I was only billed 2 hrs for welding and finishing out the chambers. It would definitely be worth sending them some good clear pics to see what they say.

If they are the Edlebrock 205 heads, I would really consider attempting to have them repaired. Shop around for a reputable shop that has experience in things such as this.

Thanks for the input guys! I'll start asking around at these shops.
I bought the heads so I know there edebrock. They feed my stock bottom ls1 to an 11.0 all motor so pretty happy with them.

Well my block has a window on both sides now so possibilities are endless. Would like to do a turbo setup, maybe an ls7 based all motor setup. Not sure
