Default Initial test drive after cam swap not impressed

99 m6 Previous mods
Long tubes ory hi flow lid
Mail order tune car ran fine drove well
Stored for the winter
Installed cam and oversized slp maf had the mail order tune updated for for cam ..before I took t pit for the season
Again I have not driven the car for 6 months so I don't really remember how it went previously
Got it together today . Starts and runs well drives well . Filled it up with fresh fuel and put about 10 miles on it ... I'll register it tomorrow
Initial Seat of the pants feel is the same ...
Should I have noticed a huge difference . Maybe it's just been to long since I drove it last and it really does go better...
Figured the car would impress over the durmax lb7 that I have been driving daily....
I'll get some more miles put on it tomorrow

Stock cam to 230/236 .591"/.601" 112 LSA
Again I only put 10 miles on it due to lack of registration
Tomorrow may yield a different opinion
I'm not dissing the cam
just in general assumed seat of the pants results would be more noticeable ...

Mail order tune is basically to just get the engine started and allow you to do some data logging so the tune can be adjusted for it.

Don't expect a mail order to be right the first time

How hard did you drive it those 10 miles?. If you just putted around the block a couple times without getting on it, with that cam, it would be a dog until it gets above 3000RPM

I didn't thrash it
I had my 2 kids in the back seat
They were helping me work on it for the last few days and wanted to go for a ride

Just a few hard rolls thru 3rd gear
I was just expressing my initial opinion
My 1st car with a cam swap

when I put a cam in my 5.3 silverado I was disappointed too. Stock cam to a 212/218 tsp cam. High lift version. It was supposed to be at least 50hp more. It kinda felt slower. Then I started running some logs. Figured out it was way too lean. So I started adding fuel. Things got better. Then I realized my duty cycle was over 100%. Time for bigger injectors. (99 silverado had tiny injectors) so I put flex fuel 36lbs in it. Now we talking. dialed in the tune and omg. Moral of the story: your tune is off.

You tune your self ..??
I know enough to get my self in trouble
20years at being a gm tech I have no trouble with drivability of a stock vehicle ..
Injector duty cycle is not something I normally work with .
I know I can't correct this with out a tune .. but can I get myself headed in the right direction by looking at the data on my tech 2

Yes I have hp tuners. Timing will need to be changed to what the cam wants and you'll need to dial in the fuel curve too. My gto and my previous silverado both liked the afr dialed in at 12.9 to 1. Don't expect much difference until the tune is dialed in and I would highly advise not running it hard (or flooring it for that matter) until it's tuned. If it's too lean it could result in engine damage (I'm sure you know that tho).

Like mentioned; thirty degrees more valve timing in a stock compression LS1 will shift the power band north quite a bit. Optimum would be a CNC head with about 11.4-11.5 tight quench(.040" Cometic gaskets) compression ratio
This combo would crutch that 1500-3000 rpm torque that just went flat from that rather big cam jump.
The tune WILL help; but it's not going to set the world on fire until the rest of the set-up is ironed out.....

if you were to look at a before and after dyno graph of your car you would notice that after the cam install, your car probably made less torque up to around 3000. after that its a different story. All of the hp made from a cam swap is seen in the 3000-6500 rpm
part of the graph. After you get the tune tweaked and start to really beat on it, you will be amazed as to how your car feels. And yes you might need bigger injectors but wait till your tuner looks at your duty cycle. Some need them and some don't (I did).

A good dyno tune / street tune may help.

The 230/236 cam probably won't make as much under 3,500 rpm torque as the stock cam did. With car being an M6 a set of 4.10 gears if the car has stock gears would really help deliver that powerful feeling in the lower rpm and add to fun factor.

With M6 4th Gen Fbody: 4.10's, great clutch like a McCloud RXT, Pro 5.0 shifter. & T56 Magnum are my favorite mod's.

Lsxpower tuning
Last year they deleted egr air and rear 02s after the header install
I was happy with the car all season ..
Retune for the cam was free just had to pay for shipping .
So I figured I'd try the mail order 1st..

I would suggest Hptuners pro and a wideband. I was pretty intimidated to tune my own car. After hearing all kinds of unhappy people paying big bucks for a tune they see unhappy with, I decided to give it a shot. I'm sure you would have no problem figuring it out and rather than paying for a one time tune you can tweak daily if you want. It does take some time but IMO it's the way to go. I have a similar cam and mine pulls WAY harder now. Your gonna love that cam once it gets to a happy tune!

What's the part # you recommend
8 credits and a wide band for $839 sound right
But I see a few that are different

like others said, if you're able to tune it yourself. get a used HP tuners in the for sale with or without credits (can be had for under $350) and a uego aem wideband for under $200. then some reading and seat time and you'd be set.

Call Scoggin Dickey for HPT/Wideband combo. They gave me a hell of a deal a few years ago.

Lsxpower tuning always seem to help out and answer any questions so i would give them a call. He could set you up with data logging and make changes for you. Unless of course you want to tune yourself. Just so you know tuning with hptuners takes a long time to figure out so you will have to put some time in and do alot of reading.
