Default Another LQ4 cam recommendation...

I did a search, and read a good many build threads and suggestions, looking toi narrow down the choices. What I have is a 67 chevelle with a manual trans, no power brakes as of now, AC is going on,etc. I am building it as a weekend driver, I LUV horsepower, so upgrades will be in the future, but probably a complete build. Now for the engine. It is a 2004 LQ4, that I swapped on a set of 243's, and it has long tube headers on it. Stock truck intake, and a cam that is apparently not going to work. I bought the ecm/harness from someone who had it buil;t, but never installed. The build was similar to mine, and I got a cam based upon what they were going to use, as I understood it. After much troubleshooting (First LS, I know way more about them now than I ever thought I would need too, lol...) I was able to make contact with the ECM guy, and sent the ECM back, with the cam specs, and the duration is a LOT. It looks like it would be better to just get a new stick. I have new Johnson Short travel lifters and new PAC springs, so I should need just a good stick...

Thanks in advance. Really looking for an off the shelf grind as I need it mobile to finish it up...

It is 250/260 @ .050 on the duration, 115 center, .576 lift straight across...

Yea thats too much indeed. Youre gonna get 900 answers but honestly, what are your future plans? If NA and no boost but maybe nitrous or just stay NA then our High Lift ASA cam will do what you want. Should put you in the low 400s rwhp with ls6 intake or similar.

Probably just N/A on this one, and build a bigger and better bullet for upgrade time. I have my avatar truck for track duty, so this will be more of a weekend toy...

I will check that cam out. Thanks...

It would be our privilege to help you get the correct camshaft for your build. If you will send all the details of your build and desired performance characteristics to Steven at CamMotion.com, we can get the process started.

We look forward to hearing from you,
Steven

Thanks for the assist. The tuner thinks they can tame it, and the ECM is on its way back. If it runs fine, I will be happy. If not I will dig into the cam suggestions here a little deeper and spend even more money. Cheap swap my eye...

Running fine and performing good are two different situations. That is a lot of cam. I bet you lose close to a hundred horse below 3500 rpm compared to a stock cam. Of course, you will gain 200 or better at 7400 rpm.

I wouldn't imagine that type of duration would be very good for a weekend driver. Drag car with a 4k stalled converter, maybe. Two vendors have offered their help so far. Your best bet would at least be to get their suggestions after explaining your ideal driver. It'll definitely be worth the money.

I agree. Most likely will be buying a new one. Since the cam is in and the tune is done, I have to try it though...

Fair enough. This will at least give you the opportunity to qualify what you do/don't like about it.

And like we all thought, it didn't go so well...

As tech@WS6store answered my pm at 7:30 pm my time on a Friday, I went with the part number they gave me. I didn't get a chance to get with Cam Motion, as I want to get this in as soon as possible. Thanks for your offer though...

And just to put some closure to this for future reference. I got the cam in and the reflashed ecm, and all is well...
