Default Mahle Vs. Felpro gaskets

I'm looking to buy all new gaskets for when i pull my ls1 and figured to go Felpro all day for all my gaskets but i came across the brand "Mahle" on RockAuto and they seem pretty decent (and about a third of the price less for the pan gasket). wondering if anyone has ever used their pan/valve cover/timing cover/water pump gaskets before with luck. Any complaints about them?

don't buy any head gaskets ,until you determine where the pistons are in each cylinder bore .

Fel pro. I'm a tech and the only gaskets I've ever seen worth using are dealer and fel pro.

We've tried a couple of lower cost gaskets a couple of times and always regret it.

I know Mahle is a good brand name for pistons, but I don't know about their gaskets and if it were me I would just go with what I know is excellent already.

Mahle = Victor/Reins if I recall, they are partner/merged companies. I'd go Felpro if I was spending the money.

Victor/Reins has been around forever. They're a decent product, base level. They work, and stand up to standard use. Usually last a long time. Not the best on the market, but probably not the worst, either. I used them on my LS6, and seem to be holding up well. But it's a track only car, and doesn't see all weather daily driver use. I'll probably use them again next winter when I overhaul the engine.

Would you say they're not as good as felpro then?

I refuse to use any victor reins gaskets on my BMW's ,, 3 sets 3 fails their rubber is total crap. The felpro sets never had a problem. The shop I use when I don't have time myself also wont use them.

May work different on US marques, but on the German car forums,, Its a just say no topic...

I've only used their top end sets for Valve service,, and my 3 fails were all valve cover gaskets..

So YMMV..

Damn.. if their valve cover gaskets fail I can only imagine with the pan gasket and don't really feel like pulling the motor a second time to put another pan gasket in lol.

Never had a problem with Fel Pro on LS engines of all power levels. Get them and be done.

However, I'll always use the GM MLS gaskets. LS9's in the larger bore engines including my 4.030" 408 currently. ARP Studs are a must on any engine (IMO)

when i was a tech i stayed away from mahle, just seemed like a cheaply made product. also where the felpro has the little **** to hold the oring type gasket in place alot of the time the mahle didnt have anything so you had to use some sort of adhesive to hold the gasket in place while installing. go with felpro and save yourself a hassle.

I think they're about the same. Installed correctly, they'll last a long time.

That's what I basically thought but it seems like almost everyone on this thread says they suck. Don't know I'll probably just end up going Fel-Pro just to be safe even a chance of an oil leak isn't worth saving a few bucks.

Any reason you go with gm Head gaskets I'm planning on doing the mls .041 thick Fel-Pro head gasket to lower the quench and raise compression.. anything wrong with those?

No. But I'd use Cometic head gaskets unless FI, then the LS9 is what I'd run. Everything else should be GM.

Fel-Pro MLS gaskets are also good, but don't come in as many sizes as the Cometics. They are a good bit cheaper and work well.
