30 minutes? I'm confused what could I do in 30 minutes? I figure if it's not a lifter then im going to have to pull the engine to find out what is going on in there.
I thought I read that you pulled the engine last summer...my bad. If lifter is toast, rocker could and should still move...somewhat.

Sorry no I haven't pulled the engine yet. I wish that was the case. I'm not excited to do that.

So even if the lifter is toast it will still push the rod to lift the rocker?

Yes. But if lifter is gone, there should be slop in the rocker/pushrod of that lobe. Whatever is left of the lifter will move upward with the cam lobe. Only way your gonna know what was squealing is to pull the engine and take a look. What vehicle is this in?

For anyone that is curious...
It has been a while but I think I'm about to dust this thing off and figure it out finally. Paid some things off, have a couple nickels to rub together. Haven't pulled the engine yet but that is still next on my list. Seems like the general consensus is pulling from the bottom is the way to go. (02 SS auto) Anyone within trailer hauling distance that has pulled these engines a few times and could use some cash lol? Jk but maybe not really.

Funny car that biatch! Done it several times under a carport while

having to crawl around on plywood. I'm 50 years old and if I can do it I know you youngsters can do it.

You will need an engine hoist, two large floor jacks, two large jack stands, some 4"x4" wooden blocks and a couple of dollies strapped together.

Bringing this from the dead to bring some closure. Looks like someone cleaned with a brass wire brush. It could've been me but I don't remember doing so and I dont currently own a brass wire brush. Either way the bearings were pretty trashed and some other scoring damage. Got the engine rebuilt and it is currently operational in my garage.

Pics of damage

I guess I figured it was metal floating in the oil that got in-between things. Not sure what cylinder did what.
