Default Main cap bolt issues

I have a 6.0 iron block that im building my 408 from and litteraly every bolt I put i to the main cap snapped. I got them all tapped out and every thing is fine but now im deathly afraid to buy a new set amd do it again. Also can't afford arp. So the question is why does this happen? I followed the sequence and someone said it should be between 58 and 62 foot lbs when all said and done. But hell ots didn't even make 45 and i felt it starting to get weird then snap. I can see one or two but all of them? What am I doing wrong? Also does anyone know the size of all the bolts like pitch and such I can't seem to find it and there is a shop near me that makes all this stuff but Idk what sizes all the studs and bolts are.

Stock bolts are supposed to be 15ft lb. Thin the inner bolts 80 degrees and outer bolts 52 degress torque angle. Are u tryin to use ft lbs instead of torque to yield??

I did the 15 then the other 80 degrees and then boom it snapped. So I did it again 2 more times. So I got the gauge I have at work and right around 40 ish degrees it snapped and read like 45 lbs I wasn't even half way there yet. And it was pretty similar with the rest of the them.

Scroll down a little to the part where it says Washer Warning, and see if that could be part of your issue. http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/eng...-build-easier/

I'll give that a try makes sense but if they didn't do it from factory then highly unlikely it would be that... At least I would think.

Is there junk in the bottom of the bolt holes?
Or possibly too much oil and they are hydro locking?

I used an eye dropper and drop it right on the bolt the holes were cleaned and even looked with a bright *** flashlight. I tried again today and so far was good then snap. Wtf is going on and I tried lube meant specifically for that and still broke. I had a friend of mine look and he tried it and almost snapped one but felt it stretch and he stopped.

Take some pictures and post them. The more the better. Someone might see something that you're doing wrong.

I meant pictures of the bolts, where they're breaking, which holes you're putting them in, your angle gauge, etc.

On an unrelated note, the bottom of your cylinders don’t look like they have been debirred. Before you assemble this, be sure that there is a nice smooth radius. A sharp edge on the bottom of the cylinder will shave the skirts away with a stroker.

Do you not have to clearance that block for the rod bolts? Or are you just starting the set up?

I am just starting the setup trying to make sure I have the right spacing between bearings and crank. Then I'll be clearancing the rod bolts.

I like that chineesium lol. And not that I know of they were in the block when I bought it and the guy said they are all original he just tore it apart because he was going to build it then swapped to a bigger engine. So as far as I know they are GM bolts.

If they are all original the they are torque to yield and probably shouldn't be re-used.
