Default How to video: Rocker Arm Trunion Kit

Hey all,

I made a short video showing you how I installed my rocker arm trunion kit with no special tools. My car had a tick when hot which I was sure was the rocker arms. After I re-assembled the engine the noise was WAY worse and I was freaking out. I pulled the valve covers and started the car and it was silent! I forgot I ground out my valve covers to fit the rockers, the valve covers must have settled down a little bit and the rocker was tapping them. Needless to say I feel like an idiot but the trunion kit is cheap insurance for the future. I was really surprised with how easy this kit was to install.

Enjoy

Id say the needles have less friction. Needles bearings are actually really good, the only problem with the stock design is that the end caps can walk out of the rocker where as with the c clipped trunion they cant.

Unfortunately a lot of people are seeing the aftermarket bearing trunions wear out in very short time. Most are going to bushing style due to that issue.

You had to ground down the valve cover to fit stock rocker arms? You did something wrong

yes.....you might wanna go ahead and get the bushing kit.....even tho you just bought those....save the hassle of doing it later and putting all those metal shavings in the engine

i have a thread of what mine looked like after 100k miles.....

I had to go find the thread to see how they made it that long, which technically they didn't they were worn sometime before that. But you had stock cam and springs. With heavy springs they wear out much sooner. Seen a lot at roughly 10k miles or less that were worse than yours.

There's a thread or article somewhere where a set were wiped out bad by 6k miles.

Never use a product made by comp. They have terrible valve springs and do not stand by their products.

But hey maybe if you're lucky and after the shavings destroy your engine, they may give you another set of rocker trunions at a discount

I'm guessing you put LQ4 covers on a LS3 head since LS3 rockers wouldn't work on the LQ4 head...?

No problem, sucks you found out after just installing them.

Ya thats right. I actually ground them out ages ago and drove the car for a full summer. Now halfway through the second summer the cover must have walked down a bit and started tapping so i touched them up. I'm sure ill get the rest of the summer outta these comp trunions. The cars getting a turbo this winter and im going to do a fully documented vlog build on it. Looks like one video will be on removing the comp trunions hahahaha.

Thanks! I'm really slow with content right now because I'm just driving my car. In October I'm gonna start my build (custom build headers, 7875, air-air), shooting for 600ish whp

Hmm.. ya, know,, had they used a bearing with a internal race,,, nothing would wear out..
The shafts would have to be 4130 so they could be thinner.. Wonder if some hard, .010 sleeves on the shafts would stop the wear?
