what would you do to the 799's ? Just a clean up? I'm not having them work on intake side because I wanted to keep velocity up
you still need to let that big engine breathe. I think it would be a mistake not opening it up some unless your putting it in a truck and want to tow heavy with it.
this is the Internet. You’ll get opinions. Regurgitated info. You’ll get facts. Lies. Misconceptions. Bullshit. You name it. You’ll get guys who sound like they know what they are talking about but then if you read their other threads or posts, you’ll notice they can’t even change their own cam. Swap heads. Or even change a water pump. Those guys are laughable. All they do is repeat **** they heard or read. Try to at least take into consideration info from people that do their own work and own tuning. I see people spit **** out about transmissions on here that haven’t even seen one apart much less probably never even changed their own fluid and filter. I guess all this bs is good in a way becaysecif you like responses, you lol get them but say that only experienced people were allowed to post.....it would probably be like a ghost town up in here, seems like nowadays a lot of people just pay someone else to do it. I can’t do that, I couldn’t claim that I built my own car then. I do everything on my own, whether it’s build my own motors, transmissions, rear ends, port my own heads, tune, paint, powdercoat, weld. I’m no pro at some of these things but I can get it done on my own. So my advice to you is find guys that have actually done it. Those are the guys that won’t lead you in the wrong direction.

Very well done sir ! I have done most of it myself also. I haven't tackled paint or a trans rebuild yet. Going to try painting this one tho but I'll leave the trans work to a specialist
Since your goal is usable lower RPM torque, have you considered a 4” or 4.125” stroke crank to make it a 4xx cube engine? You’re already biying rods and pistons; the crank isn’t much more when you consider the work that usually needs to be done to a stock crank. Aftermarket cranks also have a keyway already cut in the snout so you won’t have to use that stupid crank pinning kit when/if you go with a supercharger later.
Since it’s been brought up, I have a 440ci shortblock with a set of 317’s on top, so I can speak from experience.

I know what you mean though, and I agree. This place has changed. There used to be a lot of knowledgeable people on here. It’s not really that way anymore.
Yea, the way hot rodding is has changed. And mechanic work. I work at an automotive dealership and there’s no more rebuilding anything. They just swap parts. Except there was a huge piston ring recall and they had to change the rings on three cylinders. Actually still kind of going on.....I guess the manufacturer didn’t want to have to send short blocks out.
Anyways, getting back to the op original question, I think a btr stage 2 cam would be very torquey in a 370cu in engine. I think you’d be very happy with that. I would port the heads or use ls3 heads. I think the 317’s have a larger combustion chamber than 243/799 heads so you may want to take that into consideration.

Point taken. And one reason I didn't go with bigger cubes. Going to be 100% street car. You can have 1000hp but it you go up in smoke the guy next to you that doesn't is going to beat you.
I agree. I'm go say you'll get more miles on the 370ci by using a factory spec crank over a 4 inch crank but that's just my opinion.
