Default Care to suggest a cam for an LS6?

Hi All,

I'm new here so figured I'd ask a newbie question.

I want to do a cam swap on my 2001 Z06 but it has to have decent idle quality and pass a sniffer at a government run facility. Every last shred of HP isn't my goal but a good bump in power is. Cams are new to me so would you care to suggest a good cam choice? I have longtubes on the car already. I am hoping to get 400rwhp. If I got that and met my other goals I'd be happy. I just don't want to be idling at a light feeling like I'm in Joe Amato's dragster.

Thanks for any thoughts.
Joe

A B1 or similar cam around 220 duration, w/ 114 or higher LSA should do it. BTW, you may have trouble passing a sniffer test w/ those LT's.

Sspray is correct. The Z06 only comes in a 6 speed. Anyway, thanks for the tips. What HP expectation would be reasonable? I dynoed on a Mustang at 356rwhp the way it is now with the longtubes. Here's a dyno chart of before and after the headers. You think 400 is possible???
Also, what LSA on the cams?

THANKS!
Joe

Ive heard of one guy running a TR227 in his Z06 and got a little over 400 with minor bolt ons and a "stock like" sound (you have long tubes so I dont know how much this will affect your sound) But this seems like a pretty good cam with a set of stock untouched LS6 heads

You might look at the new Comp Cams part number 54-424-11. The specs are 212/218 .558/.563 115 LSA. I'd think it should pass emissions, and it should idle great with the relatively low duration and 115 LSA, while giving you a broad powerband. I'm putting this cam in my car in a month or two. Just a thought. I've found it for $349 online... e-mail me if you want to know where I found it at that price. (I'm too lazy to scroll up & down our HUGE sponsor list on the right to see if the place I found it is a sponsor or not. )
