Piston Ring Size

Does anyone know what size pistons rings to use with piston part # 88894241? I see that there are two different size piston rings.
1.5, 1.5, 3.0
or
1.2, 1.5, 2.5

That seems weird. A certain piston SHOULD take certain rings. You mean when you told them the piston part # they did NOT know which ring pack it took?? That should be in a parts book somewhere....
Call a GM dealer and ask them which part # covers the rings for that piston part#. That should give some sort answer.

Yea man I did call several GM dealers and I got two part numbers.
89017484: 1.2MM, 1.5MM, 2.5MM
88894243: 1.5MM, 1.5MM, 3.0MM

Some websites even give me 1.5MM, 1.5MM, 2.5MM

I’m assuming these are six liter slugs ??
dished are LQ4 and have the 1.5/3.0
flat tops are the LQ9/LS2 stuff with 1.2/1.5/2.5
I’ve heard early non skirt coated LQ9(02-03) pistons might have the thicker ring pack
use feeler guages. The simple conversion puts the 1.2mm at .047”
and the 1.5mm are .059” thick

I would almost bet that shaving a part of a millimeter from the thickness still allows it to fit in the same groove. That is splitting hairs, thickness-wise..
