Front welch plug #%#^@
ok this is starting to **** me off. So im doing a full rebuild on lq9. I knocked out the rear barbell and front welch plug for cleaning purposes. I went with the upgraded metal barbell from sac city corvette. Now when i went to get the front welch plug no one carried brass 5/8 freeze plug. So i opted for steel. Whaddya know its not 5/8 its actually 41/64. So i ordered a few steel plugs off ebay. Install one, it goes in tight..im happy...then just to be sure i stick i screwdriver in the threaded galley hole to its right and apply a little pressure to see if it is in there goodandtite..SOB pops out
ok so i try another..same result its like it goes.in tight like its supposed to but ypu can pop it out very easily
..so i said **** it and put some black rtv around one and drove it in. The front timing cover will keep it from coming out. Am i doing it wrong by using steel and not brass? My issue is i cannot find the brass plug anywhere except in a kit thats $20. I dont need a whole kit i just need one #$#$% brass plug! Anyone know where i can get a brass front welch plug by itself and not in a kit full of crap i dont need?
man I'm a cheapass, but I'd spend the $20 to do it right rather than chance it, have an issue, have to tear it back down and spend $20 anyways. Plus coolant and gaskets. and Time. This is if you cant find the right plug by itself of course.

yea its not the money its the principal..im a stubborn ******..ill probably end up buying the kit but i will bitchin the whole way..i just dont understand why its so hard to.find a simple freeze plug
Its a great product. Gives you zero chance of leakage, and when you rebuild next time (a lot of us do) it comes right out. The front cover actually holds it in. I hate those stupid Oem expansion plugs. Hard to believe that it took someone 20 years to Come up with a better way to control oil flow in the LS platform.
