Default Who has the "Best Bang for the Buck" ported heads, 243/799?

As the title says, looking for good price on ported heads. The heads will be going on LQ4, or an LS1, just a daily, budget build.

Thanks.

I don't know the "best" deal, but check out TSP's CNC porting for $750 ($675 Black Friday deal, not sure still on). Includes disassembly, thorough cleaning, CNC porting, CNC valve job, CNC milling to your specs, reassembly and pressure testing. This is for Stage I porting which keeps the stock valve sizes and springs. Stronger springs and larger valves (Stage 2.5) are optional at extra cost. I think they are very reasonable, and their porting gets good reviews.

If your on budget and just want cnc program on runners only Katech and Livernois both have it only $500 . Livernois has a black friday deal which includes vj and their spring pkg and seals $999. But the TSP stage 1 is a very good value too.

I ran a set of TEA 5.3 Stage 2's for 15 years and 130,000+ miles. I think that TEA or Land Speed Cylinder Head's have an excellent level of quality that is the best bang for the buck. They would be among my top choices to send a set of 243's to for porting. Advanced Induction also has a very good reputation.

If you figure in a $400 going rate for 243's and their porting with .660 springs even with stock valves you are near $1400. At that point a few hundred more doesn't sound bad for their as cast 225cc PRC heads. From there you are a few hundred away from some AFR's or something....LOL...decisions.

TSP stage 1 243's. $400 heads, $750 porting and $100 shipping there. $1250 for a head that flows 300 cfm. Not a bad deal. To get a 240cc port that flows 320 @.600 lift my neighbor has $2500 into aftermarket Ford heads.

OP, do you have the OEM LQ4 heads? If so they will port out to the same as 243/799's, saving you a bunch of money.

Yep, the snow ball effect, some much for a simple cam, 799 heads budget build. The mf'er isn't even done, and I already want more!

I've read a couple threads on yellowbullet where people are saying they are a good deal if you buy them bare and build them. Some have had to redo guides and seats but not often. The problem seems to be the assembled heads almost always need work out of the box.

Add in another couple hundred for the valve spring kit since the TSP price is for stock valve springs. Also if you look at the flow rates below .600 lift those aftermarket heads really separate themselves. I'm also of the belief that not everyone tests their flow rates under the same conditions so that could be misleading as well. Although they are a little more money at $1700 the PRC as cast 225's seem like the best bang for the buck.
