Max bore on an LS1?
I'm just curious about the stroker kits I came across. Can the LS1 be bored out to 4.005"? With a 4" stroke, the CID would be about 403 / 6.6L. That would be awesome, but I'm thinking the walls would get too thin. Has anyone tried this before?
I was trying to figure out if it was cheaper to bore/stroke an LS1 up to 6.2L, or swap in an LS3. Those junkyard 6.2s are expensive.
Based on a calculator I found online, the 383 stroker kits for the LS1 will take it up to about 6.3L. It probably wouldn't be as efficient as the actual LS3/L99/etc. though.
I was just thinking that building an engine with my dad would be more fun than cutting up my car to install a turbo or supercharger kit. The turbo/supercharger would make more power, no doubt. It's just very expensive, and invasive.

That being said I would suggest a quality 383" rotating assembly from
WS6 Store. A well built 383" can make anywhere from 500-600+ HP @ the FW
depending on the HCI and corresponding $$$ you have to spend.
From Ported 243s W/ a hi lift hot cam & Fast 92, to the as cast LS3 240 cc
small-Bore Heads with a Mid-Length Runner Fast and a LLSR (LOL for the haters).
All depends on the goals & usage.

I was, indeed, looking at the kits from the WS6 Store. I was wanting to re-use my current heads/cam/intake. With that kind of CID, I would probably need more air, though.
My dad grew up working on Small Block Chevy engines. I'm still kinda new to LS engines. It sounds like a fun project. Maybe one of these days when I have a few more bills paid off....
