Torque does win races if you have a heavy car on an 1/8 mile track. A light car on a 1/4 mile wants more top end. A mid-weight car that runs both can use either and which ever you choose will be wrong if you post about it on here.
Well said!!! Lol! I agree.

A squarthedral engine would have one cathedral head and one rectangular

OP,
I wouldn't swap from a good correctly ported quality set of cathedrals for rectangular or vice-versa for a daily driver or street car. There would likely be something much better to spend $$$ on like a NOS system, saving for a Procharger etc.

Strip mainly or race car, rectangular.

Cathedrals are less tricky or confusing to cam correctly generally speaking than rectangular which can be a finicky with correct split exhaust duration in some cases. You can get good results slapping a single pattern cam or small split cam in cathedrals and rectangular will want more split typically.

So if the OP swaps heads he will likely want to consider a new cam for best results.

I think right now is the perfect time for the good ole big block chevy oval ports vs square ports debate... especially since the word torquey was mentioned.

How to make a big block torquey:

Step 1 -- you dont need to, because big cube engines make torque even on accident

I lile cathedral heads personally .. I have cathedrals on my 416 and make a touch over 570 rwhp on motor.

but I really really want to build a stock casting ls3 headed motor to see how far I can push stock castings .. ugh

4150 on a vic jr is going to drive like **** . And not make power until 6000 rpm. Better plan on spinning 7500+
I like fast 102's. For fbodys. Highrams for trucks
I know someone with a 416 LS3 stroker that runs 10.45 on stock unported LS3 heads.

His car weighs next to nothing. His setup is more chassis than motor

Why is anyone questioning if ls3 heads should go on a 408 vs cathedral?
