Default No start issue... 2001 WS6

Bought a 2001 WS6 last week with 116k on it. It fired up fine for me when I was at the guys house. Went back a few days later to buy it and it fired up fine. I went home and pulled out some 12g sub woofer wire which was run through the firewall.

Since then I have had an intermittent starting problem. It was starting maybe 1/15 times that I'd crank it.

Yes, I have fuel pressure. 55ish with the key on and pump priming, 45 once the pump stops. (I believe its supposed to be 58 but my gauge could be slightly off but regardless I'd think 45psi is enough pressure to start a car...)

No, security light is not on so its not the resistors in the keys.

Yes, I pulled a wire and touched it to the head to confirm spark.

Yes, I just changed the crankshaft position sensor last night with a brand new OEM one.

I couldn't get it to fire up at all last night after I changed the sensor. Any ideas? I was thinking maybe I messed something up when I pulled that wiring but it did start several times after I pulled the wiring, just had to keep trying and keep cranking and eventually it would start.

My same old line- Check all grounds! I have a feeling via the speaker wire pullout and/or age, some grounds might be loose, corroded, or disconnected. Try that first!

Okay where are the grounds on these cars? I believe one is on the back of drivers side head?

nevermind, found the list.

#1: Back of passenger side cylinder head.
#2: Passenger side of block.
#3: 3 ground wires on the back of the drivers side head.
#4: under the bracket for the air box assembly. (can cause all kinds of light problems)
#5: cluster of ground wires on the lower ds pillar, close to the door pushbutton for the interior light.
#6: Grounding strap from just behind alternator. (PS fluid just loves to reek havoc in that area)

ill check them. thank you

There ya go! Hopefully your problem lies in one of those! Best of luck!

If it is not a grounding issue... It may be the ignition relay failing, causing the crank/no start. Try swapping it with a working fan relay to test.

First off what does it do/not do

Is it cranking over when it doesn't start or does it not crank at all

Doesn't crank at all... pull the battery terminals and clean them with the water hose and a little wire brush. Have had countless problems with battery terminal connections causing a no crank. If it still doesn't crank try a starter.

If it cranks and doesn't fire. Does it have fuel pressure and spark when it doesn't run? It shouldn't really have both and not run unless it's got a funny crank or cam sensor. Or the grounds on the back of the head may be loose. They are on the back of the driver side head.

Someone posted something similar the other day and said they finally found that they had a funky relay causing the issue.

I had an intermittent non start issue and it was the ignition relay.

Oh that was you. Were you the one that tried a few different things and it seemed fixed then it wasn't and ended up being the relay?

Maybe tell this guy where the relay is exactly. I haven't had an F body in many years so I can't go out and look and tell him.

My mechanic thought it was an ignition switch problem because it was so random. Took the dealer 3 hours to figure out it was the ignition relay.

The ignition relay is under the hood, in the fuse box on the drivers side fender. The top of the box has a diagram of which fuses and relays are which.

I think it may have been someone else that posted up about the ignition relay that I was referring to. This person tried a few things over several months themselves and it ended up being the ignition relay for them too.
