Default Another Cam Question

Got a 2003 GMC 1500 that I swapped to a 6.0 from the same year Suburban, I tow a 5500 lbs camper with it a few times a year but otherwise it's a daily driver. With the 3.73 I'm running 3k at 70mph in 3rd, I'm running a beefed up 4L60 and would like to be able to pull in OD which it sorta will now but struggles. I can at present afford a good cam and spring kit, suggestions???

Call Cam Motion or TSP. They will steer you straight to a good truck cam.

or you could call Summit Racing that created the first truly dedicated Ls cam for towing in late 2018. Sum-8718 has the same intake closing point as the Lq9 but opens up the other three valve events, .500 lift, and increases lobe intensity for big torque and power gains at no expense to idle quality or tune and will often pick up fuel mileage because the transmission is no longer dropping a gear up hills. This particular cam functions fine with stock springs, but if yours are worn, the LS6 springs are a great match and only cost another $80. It increases the power to the wheels by extending the rev range at nearly zero expense to longevity of the motor overall

I was under the impression that the LQ9 already had a beefier set of V springs in it ?

Most of the factory springs come in around 80 lbs. at the seat. LS6 springs come in at 90 and 260 open (.550 lift). That's going to help you carry power higher in the range by several hundred rpm. So we're going to make more power off idle and increase power across the board. You're not going to see a steep decrease in mileage either. The reason for this is just as you said. Having more torque and the ability to stay in a higher gear up a hill means rpm is less and the requirement for more fuel.

Awesome advice here so far! Love that summit is so active on these boards. I’ll be looking at the SUM-8718 when it comes time for a cam in my LQ4.

Thank you for the opportunity. The Pro LS cam rollout has been a great project for us. Invigorating for the whole company actually.

Ok I'm gonna order the cam and some LS6 springs today, Summit could sweeten the deal and give me a discount code on here because I'm a loyal customer and fan 😁
