Heat in the mains will cause the caps to bend. I’ve seen it a bunch. You can put the caps in a press and bend them back, machine them flat and align bore/hone the block. Or you can get a set of caps from another block and align bore/hone the deal. The second is a little easier.

You don’t see heat in the caps because they’ve been blasted.

A big thanks to Ron, in Portland for helping me find my first set of donor mains.

I got Dan two sets of main caps and my old L33 crank. He will be using Gen 4 rods. So the balance should be close.

Always nice to meet a fellow forum member.

I hope to have my bock back early August. The shop got swamped and I am in no hurry. My machinist was able to find caps that fit closely (from RonSS). He will be line honing it shortly with the ARP studs. I am confident in my shop, but not really in the block due to finding this late. Regardless, my shop wont do it if its not savable.

When I take a block in for cleanup I always order a magnaflux and checkout as part of the deal. no sense wasting energy on a bad block (For me that's important) . BTW the last engine I line bored was 125 bucks.. its not a big job with the right tools.
