Default How bad is the damage to this head

So, bought some 317 heads for a turbo build, heads were advertised as rebuilt, good shape. A few spots around the edges are gouged, one pretty significant shown in pics. Will this cause a head gasket problem that close to the intake side bolt edge? Would you return these?

I don't think you'll ever have a problem with them.

I agree with the others. That head is good to go. Slap it on and make some power.

I would take a file and knock off the high spots.

I wouldn't worry too much about those areas around the corners but had it been around the cylinder you'd have an issue. Its not like they can't be welded and re-surfaced either.

Those area's don't matter. They aren't affecting any critical sealing areas, or non critical.

I agree with the above posts, and that if there are any high spots they need to be smoothed flush.

If you're not comfortable doing that take them to a machine shop and have them do a light cleanup on the surface/deck them for flatness. Which you should do anytime you pickup a set of used heads anyway.

Either that or the pic is reflecting it to look that way. I would do a clean up cut on a good mill.

Its oil on the surface making it look that that, they're smooth. They supposedly have been resurfaced but I'll take them to the machine shop and just have them looked over. Thanks

In that case, you're likely OK, but good idea to check them over. Better safe than sorry!
