Default Junk lq4 build

And by junk I do mean junk. I'm building up a trashed lq4 that spun cam bearings. I used belzona 111 to build up and machine the severely messed up cam bores. I also epoxied the new bearings in place lol It looks like the frankenstein approach worked. Bearings are in. Cam spins flawless. Dont want to throw a lot of money into this. It's a junk build with leftover parts from other ls engines. I want to keep the lq4 heads (have 243s but better kept for another ls1 I have here. Adding a mp112 I have.... if it blows up its just a minor loss

I'm thinking about swapping the rods anbd pistons for some ls2 ones. Then its just new bearings rings chain pump etc. I have all that lying around. Ls7 lifters...trays... all I need is a cam (not decided there yet)

Probably going to operate under 6k rpm because of the mp112.

I have a wtb listing for the ls2 pistons and rods so if anyone can help out. I'm halfway around the world so stuff is not plentyful here. (Well i do have a boat load of trash here that I pulled from ls builds. Thought it would be fun to cobble something together

Good luck with those cam bearings! I put my trashed Lq4 (damaged bore) back together with new pistons and rings only, I re-used 300k mile cam and main bearings and used a different crank and Rod's from two different engines but it still runs great. I've also got a 5.3 with a spun out cam bearing I was going to throw away but maybe there is hope lol

A bit of progress. I reused the lq4 pistons even though I have ls2s. My 817 heads are junk like the rest 😂 the seats are all worn and the valves too. So I bought real z06 243s. Guess what... they are not perfect either. Something went through 1 chamber. I already welded them up and will have them resurfaced.
Got a ls1 crank thats gundrilled. Cut 20/20 and reinstalled. New ls3 oil pump. Cloyes hex adjust. Lingenfelter gt1-1 cam. All I need is some cheap head studs and the heads back and I will button it up.

Turns oit the real z06 heads are ls2 heads. 100 and 88 grams on the valves. What a rip off (the heads were sold as in good condition)... so being not as advertised and somewhat junk... i figured Id go to town with the die grinder. Still need to get a new batch of polirolls to smoothen it all out.

Only have to reshape the chamber a bit and lap the valves and these puppies can go back on

Maybe not Z06, but still 243. No difference in the casting.

Heads are finished. I got them all pretty close to identican ising inside measuring calipers (sorta like a spreader thingie dunno what its called in English) i smoothem the port work. Most effort went into the long radii the guide bosses and the ugly bowls and bowl transitions.
