Reuse OEM lifters or new Summit brand
In a dilemma. Doing a cam swap on my 2006 Silverado 5.3. Mild Cam Motion truck cam. I have a new set of Summit brand hydraulic roller lifters or I could reuse the originals. The truck has 174,000 well maintained miles and the OEM lifters are not giving me any problems.
I am pulling the heads anyway so, what would you do?
Thank You

I haven't seen Summit post in a while. I'll post this
Summit sure is proud of their LS7 lifters. Of those 50+ 5 star reviews most are from people who just installed them. So how do they perform over time. I have these with 10k miles and at least one has a pretty loud tick.
You get the idea. Buy something else.
As for LS7 lifters. To give you an idea of how our customers feel about them check out the 50+ 5 star reviews on the SUM-HTLSKIT. These have a higher grade lifter than what can normally be found. This kit has been superseded to SUM-HTLSKIT1. The same quality and value can be expected with the new number, its just a packaging change.
Haven't installed yet but look correct for a ls4 and packaged nicely fast shipping. Always happy with summit. I'll update when I get the lifters in
Havint had a chance to run the motor just yet but they look really good. I had started to clean my old lifters and decided to buy new ones and im glad i did now. Thanks again summit
Haven't use them yet. They look pretty good!
So far so good, approx 300 miles on new lifters
I put them in my 2001 5.7 ls1 with 216/220 trickflow cam and ls6 springs work amazing so far. Going on day 3
I wouldn’t recommend these lifters unless you are on a complete budget. They are way to noisy

Mmmmm, would be nice to know who makes them. My guess is Melling. I think I will roll the dice and keep running the originals.

I got the engine tore down today. I cannot see any difference between the Summit brand lifters I have compared to the OEM lifters that were factory installed in 2006, at least externally.

Well the travel and preload may different and could result in a different length pushrod.

@Summitracing can you chime in on the lifters y'all sell and what to expect from them/who makes them etc? Are they a LS7 lifter, an upgrade to LS7 lifters or ??
I'm looking to buy lifters myself soon and scoping out all the options so I'm curious about this as well.

With 174k miles you are already rolling the dice. I would swap out for peace of mind and know they shouldn't be an issue moving on. Like an old commercial used to say, You can pay now or pay later. Mellings has been in business for a long time. I like their reputation and have ran a set about 8k miles with no issues.

I decided to run the new Summit lifters. Who knows who makes them. Even though I have another 5.3 Silverado with 282,000 miles on the original engine/lifters, I feel going back with new ones is the right call while the heads are off on this other truck. We shall see.

I would imagine they are from a quality manufacturer. Summit doesn't seem to mess around when it comes to putting their name on parts. Hopefully they will chime in and share more details about them. They are likely just OE replacements but it would be sweet if they had a few features that made them better. I have been shopping lifters and I would like a little upgrade to the stock ones but no idea which way to go yet.

Johnson customer service is impeccable and I will continue to do business with them if I need another set of lifters. I got the 2116 lifters and worked closely with johnson and manton to get the right pushrod and they are very quiet and there is no trace of valve float at 7100 rpm. Overall I am satisfied but I admit I did not need those lifters, a 2110 would have been fine and saved me a few hundred bucks. I would recommend going that route. Cheap lifters just cause headaches and the valvetrain is extremely critical to get correct.

The Summit lifters look different than the Summit lifters that I have.
Those look like an Eaton based lifter. Which may at one time been a supplier for GM.

I am the second owner of this truck. He told me the engine had never been into when I bought it. That said, I cannot say what I pulled out is without a doubt what came in it from the factory.

I just pulled this one out of Folgers can I have had on the shelf marked 2002 Suburban 5.3 that I had saved from a job a few years back. I have seen more of this style than the other.

Hello there, yes the lifters that come in our SUM-HTLSKIT kit are LS7 spec. .165 plunger travel and the tight valving. We are currently back ordered on these. Between the GM strike and Covid, it's been hard on the manufacturer. It's going to be a while before they come back into stock, but we will let you know when they are and they will be of the same good quality and design as before. Thank you.
