Default Smoke on hard acceleration

Hey Guys,

I am sure this topic has been beat to death, but on hard acceleration I have what seems to be smoke puff coming out. The car has 45,000 miles and has been meticulously maintained. I do not have a catch can installed and I have heard that can help. what are you thoughts. Car runs perfect, but the puff of smoke is driving me crazy

mods:
2001 camaro Ls1
full headers deleted cats and all emissions related
ls6 intake
ported and polished TB
Professional tune
lid
Fast Toys ram air kit

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Does it disappear quickly?
If so it is steam. Blown head gasket.
If it is bluish it is oil. Rings and/or valve seals/guides.
Grayish to black is rich AFR.

When you say a puff of smoke...do you mean from a steady cruising speed if you go WOT you get a quick puff and thats it.......just a puff and it clears up completely as you keep accelerating......NO trail of smoke...?

If thats the case it points to valve seal(s)........because when you first hit the throttle you get a big drop in pressure under your valve covers and that sucks oil through the bad valve seals......but then the pressure equalizes and it stops pulling oil trough....thats why you just get a puff, and then it goes away as you continue to accelerate.

A constant trail of smoke usually means bad rings.

steady cruising to WOT yes. no trail at all. thanks for the explanation. hard to believe on a low mile motor, but I guess anything is possible.

A lean tune, oddly enough, will lead to grey smoke. Usually tends to get worse as RPMs climb. Might want to datalog a bit and get with your tuner before jumping to "mechanical" conclusions.
