Default Bent Reluctor

So after troubleshooting literally everything with my 2nd ls I pulled it to find this. Curious what could have caused it?

Gremlins? Eagle specialties provides a note enclosed with their LS cranks to not exceed .028” runout on reluctor wheels. Some of those teeth can be straightened and you can straighten them with hammer and dolly. Careful not to knock the wheel off the crank.

For the trouble involved in pulling the engine I’m not putting anything suspect back in. Considering just finding a stock 5.3 crank for cheap and some flattop pistons.

A new reluctor is $15
Decent shop should have the fixture.

I got a reman crank that had the wheel all bent. 5 minutes of a hammer and punch and it revs cleanly over 7000 rpms and 700whp.

Where are you getting these engines from? Are they sealed or are they short/ long blocks?

Someone set them down on the corner. Common mistake. Not fun when someone has spent two days putting an engine in a car and gets a no-start.

Any recommendations for a replacement or is an OE reluctor sufficient? Cylinder bores are good so I might just get some standard bore flattops.

Actually the o.e. reluctors are about the only ones that people can absolutely trust. Goodson makes a fixture to install and placing them in a toaster oven works to heat them up, but machine shops should be able to do it. Callies does have the 24's CPI-12559353-1 and we do sell the 58's ADO-93442981 if needed. And yes, as for pistons - we have a bit of everything. Just let us know the engine you have and whether you are looking for cast, hyper, forged, or Pro LS level parts.

Being an LQ4 and not knowing the year you could have either Gen 3 rods or Gen 4 rods. Gen 3 rods use a .945" press-fit pin. Gen 4 rods use a .943" floating pin.

Our Pro LS 2618 forged pistons get you into a quality forged piston at a competitive price.

If it's a Gen 3 rod and you're wanting a flat top we'd recommend our Pro LS 2cc flat tops SUM-3269454000-2. That would put you right around 10.1:1 with the stock 71cc 317 heads and a .051" head gasket.

If it has Gen 4 rods we also have a Pro LS 2618 forged piston. That would be the 2cc flat tops SUM-3269434000-2. These would also put you at 10.1:1.

The recommended piston rings for either of these pistons are the Pro LS SUM-136SN9045005 file-fit rings.

Thanks for adding the pictures. Those are Gen 3 press-fit so you want the SUM-3269454000-2 pistons.
