Default Ls9 lifters in LS1?

Johnson 2110 are $800 for a set & heard that LS7 lifters fail & not the way to go. Not looking to break the bank for a set of lifters… looking to spend anywhere from $150-500 for a good set that’ll last
in the future I’ll be running 125 shot of nitrous

setup

Torquer V2 Cam 113 LSA 232/234 600/600 lift
660 Dual Valve Springs
TSP Chromoly Pushrods 7.4 “Stock”
Rollmaster Timing Chain
36 Pound injectors (upgrading soon)
3000 stall
Speed engineering Longtubes with axle dumps

any ideas on lifter choice? I had so many ppl say LS7, LS9, Johnsons, etc also can i use my stock trays or go with something else & what’s the best head gaskets for a decent price bc I’m changing out my 241 for a set of stock 243s none ported bc ppl want to charge an arm & a leg for porting.

I've had good luck with Summit lifters.

The LS7 ones. I don't have any complaints with them yet. I swapped to them because both the ebay no-name ones that i used to be able to rely on and the Crane ones I bought in a pinch were either collapsing (ebay) or causing lots of valvetrain chatter (crane). Swapping to the Summit ones instantly fixed it and they were very affordable. Its been a couple of years and that setup is still together with no issues to report.

Morel has a good reputation, somewhere in the $200 range.

Stock high mileage lifters should be fine I'd try them with that setup. The aluminum block wears out the lifter bores though, so be wary of that, I wonder if that could be exacerbated with higher spring pressure + RPM

OP,

As AwesomeAuto and wannafbody pointed out our LS7 lifters or Morel lifters are good options. Our LS7 lifters are part number SUM-HT215-16 and the Morel 7717's are part number SUM-HT217-16. It would be a good idea to go ahead and replace the lifter trays as well. We have those in our own brand as part number SUM-150132-4. You can buy the LS7 lifters and trays as kit part number SUM-HTLSKIT2. The Morel lifters aren't yet available in a kit with trays but they would use the same SUM-150132-4 trays.

Luckily the Torquer V2 has pretty gentle lobes. Out of the options listed here I would probably go with the Morels.

Make sure you replace the lifter trays too.

are they quite? I wonder how many lifters get blamed for noise when it’s more of the cam’s aggressive ramps VS. how many cams get blamed when it’s the lifters fault.

They were a lot quieter than the no-name (claimed to be OEM) and Crane lifters I was using before.

I myself like short travel lifters. They do have a noice to them but you get the lift capability of a solid lifter with the convenience of a hydrolic lifter. The tolerances are a bit tighter but well worth the money.

For factory .051" head gaskets you'd want the GM NAL-12498544 LS1/LS6 MLS head gaskets. For a nice compression bump and to reduce quench you could go with the .045" Trickflow by Cometic MLS TFS-30694030-045. With .045" head gaskets and 65cc 243 heads, you would be right around 10.7:1 compression with .041" quench. With the .051" head gaskets and 243 heads, you would be right around 10.5:1 compression with .046" quench. Bumping the compression up will improve power/torque across the range. Reducing the quench distance will help improve a more efficient combustion cycle and reduce the chance of knock.

If I may butt in- Is there an "ideal" quench number (gasket thickness) for all bore/stroke combos, or does it hinge on a particular stat like compression ratio, bore size, or other factor?
Learning process is on-going....

No problem G. That's a very good question. There are recommended quench ranges. Those are basically set by connecting rod type (steel/aluminum) and RPM range. Check out this article in our help center about quench and the recommended ranges.
