Question about a Camshaft I was given
So I was given this camshaft by a friend of mine who made a business of selling LS parts. It was just an extra he had lying around. I looked up the maker and based on the serial numbers, its a pretty mean stick. Anyway, upon looking it over I found this pitting on the first lobe. Im curious, does this make it garbage or is it still usable, and if so is there some treatment I can do to clean it up?

Scrap for sure. Could make for some fun yard art.

Buff it up, coat with laquer, put a cam gear on it, run a wire up the middle, affix lightbulb and lampshade to the end opposite the gear, stand up on the gear, and have a really cool reading light

Yes, the cam is scrap. But the important thing that makes it scrap isn't pitting or scoring. The lobe has a lot of wear, all the way around it!! Looks like a lifter roller seized, and wore a "ditch" all the way around the lobe.

You can make some nice shop door push/pull handles out of em too. My buddy and I put two of em on a beer fridge, and rattle canned it patina. Wish I took pics ov that, it was awesome.

When we moved into our new(ish) house, my wife complained that there was no toilet paper holder on the wall in the bathroom.
So I made a toilet paper holder for her:
