Default Ls1 engine oil

I have a junkyard engine that's been sitting for almost 20 years, I'm ready to start it up (yep I'll be priming it up first) however I'm not keen to fill it with big dollar fully synthetic oil just to get it up to temperature a few times then dump the oil.
I'm hoping I can get away with a cheap mineral oil of some kind.
Will a mineral oil be OK fir a quick run and flush?
20/50 perhaps ?

Sharp looking car! A++

I'd use an inexpensive conventional 5w-30 oil or 10w-30 and new oil filter for start up and a couple of oil changes. I'd use the factory suggested grade oil.

BTW - Valve stem seal rubber maybe hard and not seal well after sitting for ~20 years.

What do you mean by "conventional" oil.
there's definitely nothing inexpensive in the recomended 10w 30 range, it's all dear as poison.
I'm feeling proper cheep for a flush out... like $20 worth of mineral oil.
I'm just unsure weather the seals in a ls1 are compatible mineral oil.

Conventional 5w-30 or 10w-30 motor oil meaning not a synthetic oil.

5 quart jug of Penzoil high mileage (has seal conditioner etc) at Wal-Mart is like $22. Quaker State is like $19, lot of choices.

LS1's take 5.5 quarts so maybe get a couple of jugs for a few oil changes etc.

Where are you getting this “ mineral oil”??

10w30 conventional oil at Walmart is less than $20 for a gallon.

are you on drugs??

No I'm not on drugs, I'm not sure why you'd think I am.
I think whoever is pricing oil in Australia is on drug's and need bulk money to pay for the habit.

Here's our cheap oil here in Australia.
after seeing it in another thread l'll run with something like this to prime, run and flush the system.

Damn that is some pricey Conventional 🛢 Oil there in Australia, even at $27 dollars off!

USA 🇺🇸 & Australia 🇦🇺 being separated by the the English language. Here in the US we say Conventional Oil or Conventional Motor Oil instead of Mineral Oil. That's why I posted what I did in #4. Didn't know why but realized we weren't communicating.

Here's an example of US Mineral Oil, it's often used as a laxative. It's also used in cosmetics etc.

So when you were talking about filling your LS1 up with Mineral Oil, the reaction was why the devil would he want to use a laxative in his engine.

In the US, there's so much substance abuse, random thought: that guy must be a dope head wanting to put a laxative in his engine.

Pretty amusing misunderstanding.

~$25 US (at Wal-Mart big chain store) would be ~ $40 Australia dollars,

That makes sense ... pretty funny.
If I was a dope head I'd probably give olive oil a go.

so it's not a whole lot more expensive here then... I'm just feeling financially tight at the moment.

I'm definitely in the wrong country when it comes to loving cars, the USA is the place to be for that, its strict as a Natzi concentration camp here on the roads and everything performance related is very expensive.
I'd migrate there if it were easy,

All the best

Maybe I'm mistaken by the fine print but in the pic the price is for 10 L of Mobil which is almost good for 2 oil changes. Down below is the price of the GTX which is 47.49 when converted to US dollars is $30.25. If you planning on doing a flush just buy the cheapest 5w30 and filter, run it till operating temp is achieved then dump it and put a new oil and filter in. If the engine has a roller cam you don't have to run synthetic oil. Maybe check with Rockauto for some of the filters and other stuff you need if the shipping isn't too bad?
Unfortunately the man in Russia has caused a lot of issues worldwide for everyone, it may take some time but his people will eventually feel it as well if not already.

Good catch! TEN L of oil for that price, once converted from AU$ to US$ isn't nearly as bad as first depicted.

Just throwing this out there. Though it may be the outlier, the LS1/LS6 C5 Corvette engines take 6.5qts. Just sayin
