Default 6.2 with 862 Plus Cam?

I'm looking to replace or possibly rebuild my LS1. There is a local Performance Engine shop offering a Gen III 6.0 that has been rebuilt into 6.2 using LS3 Pistons. Heads are refreshed 862 heads and its fitted with a 218/228 112LSA. I plan on using a ls6 intake manifold and my current Texas speed 1 7/8 Long tube hearders...question is what whp should I expect from this set up? This would going into my A4 99 Camaro.

Maybe, that head/cam combination sounds like a choked down LS3 to me. I would opt for some 243/799 heads to go with that camshaft if I was staying cathedral. Went rectangular on the LS370 and one of these days I'll get my 99 down to Pat G and see what it makes.

I have the exact same combo since 2019 you're looking at, LQ4 with LS3 FLAT TOP a lot of "builders" are scared of compression are they really flat tops? and the 706 heads with the LS6 intake manifold on top. I ran mine with one and three quarter inch headers for a long time, but the car is a real daily these days and so I went back to the stock 02 Camaro manifolds. It will work that way just fine so long as you have a larger y pipe and intermediate pipe before the muffler. The 1 and 7/8 in headers are definitely the way to go if you're going to run headers, I'd buy that size If I put headers on this, again without thinking.

It will be a mid-range monster with that 212/218 a whole lot of fun to drive. Way more torque and response than the LS3 below 4500 rpm.

I tried out a bunch of cams in mine. Small, medium and large. 212/218 115lsa was great my favorite im sure it will be even better on a 112 but don't be afraid to run a really late IVC with this combo. It doesn't mind at all. In fact, with the crazy good port velocity at low RPMs, it will pretty much swallow any cam with perfect drivability.

Thanks for the input! I'm gunna pull the trigger on this engine, goal is to have the install complete by the end of the month. I might decide to run E85 since I'll be upgrading the fueling anyways, but I'm still debating.

that's a pretty small cam for 6.2 and the heads don't flow all that well, I would guess around 410 whp. It's going to make insane torque though.

Yea I'm not too thrilled on the cam/head combo, but I'm getting a great deal on the long block. Hopefully it puts down 420+whp

I think that engine will surprise a lot of people with its low end and part throttle response while holding its own higher up.
Later on a set of good 243/799 heads will help it a bit.

It's going to be a lot better than you think, The difference between the 243 and the 706 is not bad imo The 706 will probably be about 25 lb ft better below 5K, then the 243 would pull ahead by maybe 20hp or less past 5K.

I reread your first posts. I missed the cam specs. I thought it wasa 212/218 but I misread. You say it's a 218/228 112lsa, same spec as a GM hot cam or a hot cam clone.

Don't worry about WHP numbers but it should clear 400 easy so long as you're exhaust is good after the headers

Yeah but we're talking about a 4.065 bore here. I am sure the engineers at GM didn't throw small bore heads on the LS3 for a reason. Not saying it will not work but you're leaving power on the table that's all.

That test was on a 4" bore I'm not seeing the difference growing much with 0.065" more vs the original 5.3 tests where the truck heads won at 3.780" bore . Nobody said it's not leaving top end power on the table, but it will for sure make more bottom end and you can get an idea of what it would be leaving on the table. I guess all he asked was what we thought it would make so the video might give him a bit of a clue I hope. Ideally he could go to some rec port heads at some point and see huge gains up top.

What stall converter in rear gear are you running in your '99 Camaro?
