Default Do I need to replace the head bolts?

Putting the motor together and torqued the heads down only to find out I have a likely sticky new lifter. Think I’ll have to pull the head and replace it. Do I need to get yet another new set of head bolts for that head or am I ok reusing?

Depends if you want to go by what GM recommends or what some random person on the internet recommends.

If theyre GM headbolts, you can't reuse them.

You'll find that investing in ARP reusable bolts or studs will not only be a superior fastener, but also more economical over time......

I always use ARP headbolts for that reason.

Whether you need to replace head bolts depends on factors such as your vehicle's make, mileage, and the nature of the repair. In certain situations, like cylinder head replacements or engine overhauls, it's advisable to replace head bolts to ensure effective sealing and prevent potential issues. To determine the necessity of head bolt replacement for your specific case, consult your vehicle's service manual or seek advice from a mechanic.

The LS engines use torque-to-yield (TTY) head bolts. They are not supposed to be reused. Because once the torquing process has been completed you've effectively reached the elastic limit of the bolts. Once they've been stretched, they are past the point of no return. Bolts act like springs, holding whatever part that's being bolted down in place due to tension. If the fastener is compromised, so will be the tension of which it is capable of.
