Chunks of metal in oil pan 
Removed oil pan to change gasket and found these chunks of cast aluminum and what appears to be a snap ring under the baffle. Any thoughts on where this could be from?
Engine ran perfect with good oil pressure when taken apart

There's more to this LS1 engine that we've not been made aware of. That does look like a broken snap ring and those engines did not come with floating rod pins. Could it be the rocker arms have been modified and that's where the broken snap ring came from? Chunks of aluminum can only mean catastrophic failure occured . Let us know what you find.

Pull the valve covers. Only place I can possibly imagine a c-clip being is on, that has access to the crankcase, is a rocker trunion upgrade or a piston wrist pin. Pull the valve covers, if the rockers all look good then yikes run it until it blows because it eventually will lol
