Default 1998 LS1 Issue?

My friends 98 LS1 A4 3:23 car runs low 14s @ 99mph. He added exhaust and commented he ran a lil slower, this is on 2.0~2.1 60fts. Im thinking knock sensor maybe out of whack, as I remember seeing someone saying the 98 cars KS is improperly tightened or something. Anyways..just wondering if you guys have ideas. Completely stock and the car has ~20K on it. Its a very well maintained and well taken car of car.

I know flowmaster sucks and all but losing a half a second...i doubt that on stock cubes.

did he install a full exhaust including lt's and ory pipe? he could need tuning if that is the case. On occasoin some people after installing headers and ory, the car seems to reject these and it runs like ****.

otherwise, just tlel him to wear a heavier pair of shoes next time.

What elevation are you at? stock LS1's run about 13.8-14.0 up at 2800 feet

I know its odd, my LT1 with a 3:23 gear ran 14.1 @ 97 w/ 2.1 60ft bone stock on GSCs. We are right in the midwest and run at Cordova Dragway..not exactly a high altitude track. With mods in sig (No cam) I trapped 103mph. Theres no reason for his issues that I can think of

All he added was a B&B Triflow Catback..no headers or anything fancy.

I started with low 14's stock, added a lid, Y pipe, Borla, MAF & 4:10's and got to
13.02. Now I've added the headers and intake. Will be running August 12th
at Milan. Hope to be around 12.7 now. I have cam planned but still deciding
which one. TR 220/220 `112 or Comp 216/220 114 have both been suggested. I
have to pass emissions every 2 years and want more of a sleeper effect than
a real thumper.

More important than ET Hawkeye..how was your MPH stock?? Im guessing you had some traction issues and a 100+ trap.

I feel slow with my 13.5 stock

....stupid 60 footer...and breaking before the track ended.

About that car, hows the air filter? Is he running 87 Octane gas? Plugs+Wires? Oil filter?

New Plugs, Wires, changes oil religiously... and runs 93 octane at all times. Ive wondered if its the driver... but the MPH should be higher and with 2.1 60fts..he isnt doing that bad.

Low 14's I was hitting around 98 MPH. Now I'm always around
107 - 108. Traction is always an issue! I've got some Nitto D/R so
that may help a bit.

My best with a lid and catback was 14.2 @103MPH with a 2.2 60' with 85k miles on it.

I never ran with my car stock... but I have heard of the 98's having a KR issue. He could try a "Knock Box" and see if that helps.

I just ran my car for the first time a couple weeks ago on street tires. It was hot, humid, the staging lanes were backed up, and the intake temps were high according to my cousin (he had HP tuners hooked up). Track altitude is 1100 ft. The best I could come up with was a 14.0 @ 100 with a 2.25 60'. All other stock F-bodies were running low 14s @ 99 mph. I don't know what years they were, but it made me feel a little bit better about my times. Without a computer hook-up that records the track run, it's hard to know what's going on in the engine, like the KR.

A bunch of us are going to Tri-State on 8/21, if you and your friend want to meet us there I can have a laptop with EFI Live for him to scan it with. I think I remember you being on the IA list for a while. You're still on the Eastern IA list aren't you?

If you mean EIFBA yeah.. (www.EIFBA.net) Gixxer92 started the board back up. I was on there for a while, until it kinda took a back burner. Im actually missing that event for the MFBA Cordova Rental... Tony told me recently that it was the same day.. but I was already commited to the rental.
