the very best cam? i have asked before but no-one replied. i was wondering what would be the best cam for me? i have a A4 with hooker LT's and intake and programming and want to know what cam i should get? and i want a pretty rough idle but not too rough where my car wants to die on me? and if anyone has sound clips of thiers that would help out also!!! thanks
Re: the very best cam? The best cam for you needs to be decided upon by you. There are hundreds of sound clips out there. Just do a search on this site and the other one and you'll find em. There are dozens of cams out there that will do what you're asking, but some will be better suited to the kind of driving you'll be doing.

Re: the very best cam? Most people with automatics seem to go with an LSA of 114 rather than 112. Even the cams that want to die idling without tuning can be cured of that with the right PCM tuning. Another factor to consider is lobe lift; lower lift cams require less spring maintenace. I'm thinking of going with a custom 224 .533 113 LSA grind to get that nice lope without spring problems.

There is so much info out there, if you do a search, and search on how cams work, you'll get a lot better info then having someone pick out your cam.
There are so many variables to choosing a good cam. What mods have you done? What mods do you plan? What qualities do you want (idle, rpm range, streetable ect...)
Is the car street, street/strip, strip? do you have emmissions to pass? Are you worried about valve train wear?
A lot of people like the hot cam? Cheap, moderate duration, low lift(good valve train qualities), and a lope. I personall do not like this cam..
If you want to stay streetable, moderate duration, moderate lift, and maybe a 114 lsa.......

In choosing a cam, if I were you, I would read the posts on here everyday, check sigs of people and see what cam they have and what they are running. I have an A4 and I've been reading a lot and I think I've decided that when I have the money, I'm going to get a B1 cam. You'll only need the idle raised a little and its a decent cam for an A4, with just the right amount of lope for me, here's a sound clip: http://www.geocities.com/jules35usc/b1idle.wav

Re: the very best cam? G5X-2! I've got 415 rwhp on mine, no pullies, no short belt, no ported TB. Idle is not that bad at all! It's set to 1300 though! Doesn't ever die, except if I put it in reverse when its cold, and that's only sometimes. I love it, power everywhere! I'm going to post the graph soon, keep looking in the Internal section. Maybe tomorrow...

Re: the very best cam? i was thinking on getting a 221.558.112. (t1) or the 226"/226" .575"/.575" 114LSA. this would be my every day driver also and still want a nice lope and im going to get tuning done also.

Re: the very best cam? IMO the 226/.575 is too big for a daily driver with stock heads. OK, I'm going to be different and sugest something you haven't heard of before. Get a Comp Cams XR273HR. That may be the one I will order. Specs: 220/224 .530/.534 112 LSA. It has has enough duration to give you a nice sounding lope and good power up to 6600 rpm, yet is short enough to not kill driveability. With the moderate lift, you will never need to change valve springs. Lobes are XR not XE-R so that should minimize valve train noise and strain. With stock heads, .530 lift should not be a big sacrifice in power.
