Question about PTV clearance with a few cams inside…
I just ordered a set of Absolute Speed S2.5 5.3ltr heads and I’m trying to decide on a cam.
I really wanted to go with the G5X3 cam, but I’m not going to buy new pistons right now and I’m not liking the idea of fly cutting my stock pistons.
With the 5.3 heads as they come from AS with no milling, the stock head gasket and 1.7 rockers. What are the largest cams that will fit with no PTV issues?
Here are a couple of cams I have been considering
G5X2
T-Rex
X1
C1
Other than these, I’m very open to ideas…
My mods are in my sig and my somewhat realistic goal is 455+ RWHP so I need a cam that can help me get there.
This is an M6 car with stock gears for now. It’s not a daily driver and I don’t really care about emissions, I’ll figure that part out when I get there.
I’m going to get a LSX intake soon and larger TB. And I’ll probably swap out for over axle duals soon.
I appreciate any help given…
Thanks!
Jeremy

He hasn't started on them yet and he did mention that he could sink the seats some, but he also said that it would limit the flow a bit.
The G5X2 is a 232/240 .595/.608 112 and DestroyerSS is running a 231/237 .598/.595 12 LSA with no clearance issues. I'm going to ask Jay about this cam and just see what he says about it.
Matt, what kind of power did that C5 make with the 2.5 5.3's and the X2 cam?

And yes, it will limit flow a bit.. I would discuss with Jay about the possibilities.
To do it correctly, you will be notching your stock pistons. It's not a hard job, just time consuming.

Just because the 231/237 cam clears doesn't mean the 232/240 will. The ramps on the G5X2 are a lot faster and closer p-v clearance will be the result. You can't just look at the duration/lift numbers to make comparisons.

Okay… How about this cam…
XE-R 232/240 .595/.609 112+2
I talked to Jay this afternoon and he said this should clear if he uses the slightly smaller 2.032 valves.
Any thoughts?
