Default Newb to cams....needs suggestions

I have an 01 WS6 with full bolt-ons (see sig). I went my best with a Midwest 2800 stall and the same mods. I went to the 3400 and lost 3 tenths. My goal is to hit 11s. I am not concerned with anything else. I would like to do this with cam only. I am also toying with TEA's Stage 1.5 heads a buddy wants to sell me for $1500. I am staying away from that since I know that it would blow out the 10-bolt (which the cam might do as well....and I am prepared for that) and the tranny. But it is easier to replace these two things without spending $1500 on heads. So, I would like to know what you think I need cam-wise in order to reach my goal (on stock heads). Also, if you have a recommendation for a cam to get if I were to go with the TEA heads, it would be appreciated as well. The stealthier the cam, the better! Thanks a bunch!

well if you want a well mannered cam that will perform well on both stock and ported heads, i think you're look at a 224 type cam. they're proven, and since you're an A4 you're prolly going to want to go with a 114LSA, which will help keep the lope down a bit(keep the cam stealthier). you will still know you have a cam in there, no doubt. i think paired with a 3400 stall this cam will get you where u want to be. should pick up 25-30rwhp. OR, if u want to go slightly larger, you could look at a more aggressive cam, in the 228 range. that would definitely put you into the 11's w/o doubt, with room to spare.

i suggest you read jrp's cam guide. has a ton of great info in it. should get you well on your way to figuring out what cam u want.

380 rwhp will keep you planted in 11's,
224/224 .581/.581 114 XE-R Comp
224/224 .563/.563 114 TR
225/225 .589/.589 112 TSP
MTI X1 (on the bigger side)
FM11
G5X2
231/231 TSP

And the list goes on..........

With camshafts you can ask 10 people you'll get 10 different answers. Best bet is to decide on your Intake and Head combo then go looking for a camshaft. Once you know the rest of the combo it becomes a lot easier to manipulate things and you can start to do things like 12.5:1 compression on 93

Best o' luck

Floyd, I have pretty much decided that I am going to stick with stock heads. As for intake, I am going to stick with the LS6, if that is what you were referring to. As I explained before I am a newb...so explain how and why I would want to change my compression. I appreciate it as always.

More compression = more torque by math more torque = more hp. Not to mention it's more driveable since you pick up power throughout the range. You can increase compression on a stock bottom end car by running smaller combustion chambers or milling the heads. You can easily make good power on stock heads with a good cam choice, but I think its a lil more tricky.
