Default Head experts inside please . . . . heads worth it with my setup ?

Im thinking of bitting the bullet and picking up a set of heads this winter. Right now I have all the bolt ons and an MTI Stealth II cam. The car dynoed ( through cats ) 390 rwhp but only 372 rwtq which is disapointing.

What would be the best set of heads to pick up for this cam for around 2500 bucks ?? Id like to up the compression to 11.5 :1 or 12:1

Id like light weight valves and want to stay with the comp 918's that I have.

Will heads bring my torque numbers up ?

If this was your setup , what heads would you buy that would best match this cam

Cam is 224 220 581 581 116lsa btw

That's good numbers for cam only. I would use MTI 2E's with that cam, it would be a perfect match.

Thanks for the replies. We have 94 at the pump up here.

How much will I gain with a sweet set of heads and say 12:1 compression

Maybe some TEA 5.3"s or AFR 205 if you want to spend the money?

I have heard that each full point is worth 5-10 hp. There is no way to know how much power u would pick up. You should make some good power though.

If money wasnt an object . . . .would you say bare AFR 205's with titanium ( or similar ) lightweight valves and hand work from MTI or ( similar ls1 guru sponsor ) would be the best ?? Im so far into this car its not really about $$$ anymore as much as if its worth tearing it apart again and tuning out a new set of bugs

Well the question should be " are you staying with the Stealth II?"
Then match your heads to that cam with room for improvement.
I have an almost identical set up for my A4. i chose AFR milled to 62cc with .043 Cometic gasket for a final 11:1 CR.
Targeting 430rwhp with Stealth II.

Yes the plan is to stay with the SII cam and get the most out of it that I can. If Im going to go hrough the trouble of pulling the heads I want to get the badest ones I can on there for that cam that will bring the torque up. 372 rwyq is no good

Can the AFR's be milled further ??

Yes, but I think the limit without flycutting pistons is 58cc. (Stealth II cam)
Remember they got 2.02/1.6
Personally i want to keep a minimum of 1.5 PV clearance.

I gained 30hp and 30 ft-lbs when I installed my heads with the TR224 cam. Dyno'd 385/376 cam only, 415/404 cam/heads, then 439/404 bigger cam/same heads. If you're 100% sure you'll stay with that cam I'd get your heads milled to maximize compression. But if you're like everyone else (myself included), once you get heads then you'll want a bigger cam to take better advantage of the higher flowing heads.

BTW, why stay with the 918's? Go duals.

I really dont want dual springs , If I stay with a 581 581 lift I feal the 918's are a more efficient spring.

If I went with a bigger cam id concider the 225 225 581 581 cam but its really not enough of a worthwhile jump imo. . . . I like the SII so far.

Whats everyones opinion on the MTI 2E heads ?? What heads in the colonel running ??

I almost went that way, but the 5.3's weren't enough, and LS6 castings were $1200 extra. Ended up being more than AFR's
