Look in the latest chevy high performance magazine and you will see them advertised and they talked about them in an article a while back and had nothing but great things to say about them. I talked to a few engine builders like Kurt over at Wheel to Wheel and these are the only pistons they use in there build ups after doing extensive testing on all the manufactures pistons. These are the ones I am putting in my car in a few weeks. That is all I know to tell you . Good luck!!

Um, that's the pistons that are in all of the C5-R's. They've been around racing for a long time. They just decided to get into the aftermarket. Since the C5-R dominates everything and barely ever breaks, I'd say they are pretty damn good.

I just bought the mahle 3.908 forged pistons with rings for $445 shipped. Tooke them to the machine shop and the guy there was just praising how good the quality the pistons were. Every last piston was exactly the same size. The pistons are high quality. I thought since I was paying a lower price for the piston and rings I was getting lesser quality, nope they are premium parts.

Hands down best quality pistons in the world. JE is just starting to make copies of the Mahle design - short slipper skirt, 3mm rings, double box design, short wrist pin, etc. Almost all Cup cars are using them - Roush/Yates exclusively uses them. I use them in my 850+ hp 410ci sprint car. If I recall correctly they are the largest piston maker in the world now.
Side note - Mahle doesn't make connecting rods. That e-bay auction is misleading. It says Mahle pistons and H-beam rods (note no name attached to the rods).

stock ls1 pistons
Factory LS1 pistons are made by MAHLE, hopefully piston slap issues are because of poor piston to wall tolerances from GM.I have a junk factory piston in my hand and it says MAHLE, G8021 inside.

Yes - the PtoW clearance issue was a bore machining problem w/GM. The OEM Mahle piston is a mass production item with only the cheapest cost in mind - quality second as executives bonuses ride on cost reduction. Even so the Mahle mass produced piston is a decent piece. The aftermarket Mahle is a completely different story. They are a awesome piece. The "double box" design around the wrist pin is what really makes the piston retain it's roundness. A regular JE piston is an ash tray at freshing time on a 16:1 CR motor. The Mahle gets at least two freshings before they are unusable. Most guys on the board are not going anywhere near 16:1 CR, but a N2O hit causes serious cylinder pressure spikes that get near or even exceed the dynamic cylinder pressure of a 16:1 motor.
Blah, blah.... in short the Mahle aftermarkets are good.

Circle Track magazine interviewed some big-name racing team engine builder last year and he was praising Mahle pistons also, particularly the ringland machining precision and how little hand prep he has to do on them.
The mag posted a picture of a used Mahle piston that came out of a C5R engine from the 24 hour Daytona race that year, the skirt coating wasn't even worn off.
Sure, GM had early problems with matching piston and cylinder diameters, but I wouldn't let that be a deciding factor. You or your machinist can nail it to spec and have a sweet engine.
