Default Valve spring life

How long normally do aftermarket valve springs last? I currently have the REV 1116's, how often do you think I will need to change the springs?

I believe that depends on the lift and ramp-rate of your cam.

Like you say there are other factors also like making sure the engine (springs) are warmed up good before you start winding it out into the high rpms.

Its more like a 229/233 590/580 cam. I dont think its chewing the hell out of the springs, still, even with the G5x2 cam, thats still not as big as some 7liter cams, and they have no spring problems!

Figure on what MTI says for sping maintance on their 422 motors, and go by that

Large duration cams make life easier on springs, since lift is spread out over more crankshaft degrees. Rpm is what dictates spring life the most, and how close spring gets to coil bind. Heat is what kills springs and those two things mentioned are the features that dictate springs temperature.Fast lobe accelleration definitely works spring harder but this is mostly critical when spring choice is made. Most driving is not full throttle so a decent spring life cycle can be expected.

I'm closing in on 2.5 years/20,000 miles with a T1 cam in the car and 941 springs. I've broken one spring so far and it was probably close to 0 degrees out when it happened.

Yeah, Fly By has the specs right.

This car is my daily driver, and I probably take it to the dragstrip once a month. I'm not too agressive on the street.

Estimates?

My best friend had a set of Comp 918s on his car for a year (which cam on a set of GTP Stage 2)When removing all mods, i sent the heads back to crieg to get them surfaced and put double springs on them. He said all the intake valves were bent and 4 exhaust valves were bent. Took the springs off and said that they had really low spring preassure. This is only after 1 year. He had a TR224 cam, which is pretty small. Needless to say i would replace any high performance spring yearly.

Valve float can happen from driver error and this will ruin spring tension very quickly. Once valve float happens springs are damaged, and this lowers the point that it will happen again. Lifter pump up is most likely why valves bent from motor revving past a rpm that springs can control valves, etc. The larger the valves the more spring tension required, this alone can be the reason 918 works great to 7000 with stock valves but heads with 2.08" intakes saw right thru the same spring.
