Default Big Cam

MODS : 1998 Z28 ATI Procharger 5 psi, Hooker LT's, Race mufflers with dumps ( no cats ), Lucas 42.5 lb injectors, Custom Computer Tuning, Spec Stage 3 Ceramic Clutch, Moser 9 ", 411 Pro Street Gears, Detroit Locker, 35 Spline Axles, NGK TR6 Spark Plugs, MSD Plug Wires.

Dynoed 450 RWHP 431 RWTQ

This is not a daily driver

Ordered this cam a couple days ago: 232/238 590/605 115.5 LSA

I will be using the Manley dual springs, with titanium retainers, along with the Manley 2.055/ 1.6 valves.

We plan on cutting valve reliefs in the pistons, to help with the clearance issues, and possibly thicker head gaskets.

What problems can you guys possibly see in this set-up?

Also the heads that will be installed back on the car will be ported, and they are the 98 heads with the " notch " we were probably going to have the " notch " TIG welded in and the heads milled. Is this something we should do?
or will it hurt us?

If this might be a problem I should be able to get a newer set of heads without the " notch " in them.

Thanks, Don

for a blower you want a wider LSA. This makes for an easy idle. assuming this is a 346 engine i would personally have ran a bit smaller of a cam more so for tuning issues rather then performance. it should work pretty well though. good luck.

I have a 224/230 581/591 on a 114 in my FI car and I don't think I would go any biger unless it was an all out race car JMO. Good luck!

can someone help me I have a 1998 z28 with a 231 237 .585 .595 cam and a 2800 stall, driveabilty issues are drives like its in cruise control , hard to slow down at lights and it wants to keep creaping forward, died acouple times at idle in gear, ive heard many reasons why , but all different. the only fact I know is the cam called for at least a 3500 stall not sure why previous owner installed it. looking for answers , thank you

I think you already know what you need to do...that 2800 stall first of all is too tight for that cam. That cam is not overly huge, but it is a touch larger than any "midrange" cam...perhaps closer to the smaller side of the large cam group...

How spot on is your tune? That would be your second possible issue. A cammed LS1s' daily driver abilities rely heavily on how spot on the tune is.

Last but not least what gears are you running....2.73 is just flat out a no go with any cam...or even bone stock for that matter. My 98 Formula has the dreaded 2.73 gears with the stock cam and it annoys me that when I stomp on it from a dig the car lazily slips the tires. 3.42 and up depending on what you want to do with the car is ideal.

Just my .02

Default stall

it has 3.73 gears, im still trying to get the whole story about the cam and these computer issues with 1998, this cam has a lsa of 112. I was told even changing the stall wont make it that much better, another said stay with a cam with a lsa of no more then 110, its gona be a daily driver in summer depending on weather so I don't want the auto pilot feeling when driving. the creeping forward at lights or sometimes dying on me at a light.
