ok to start engine w/ motor mounts unbolted???

Default ok to start engine w/ motor mounts unbolted???

im puttin my new oil pan in tomorrow, and i wanna know if i can start the car up before i rebolt up the k member and motor mounts...cuz if somethings wrong and i have to take the pan off again, i dont wanna have to drop the k member and undo the motor mounts all over again. by the way, i only took out the 4 bolts that hook the motor mounts to the k member....so the engine is still hooked to the mounts, but the mounts are not bolted to the k member. i have the engine jacked up now...so should i bolt up the k member, lower the engine onto the k member, and try to start the motor without the mounts bolted to the k member? would that be ok, or would the motor try to shake all over the place??

i have no idea, but when i read this all i could picture was a engine trying to jump out your engine bay. like on that oil commercial. lol sry.

Yes its ok, it is less ok if you have a big cam or something where it will shake a lot. With your stock motor it will be fine

But it wouldn't hurt to bolt it down either, it only takes a few minutes to get a bolt started on each side.

well, i have a tr224 cam, but it is a rather mild cam. ok, thanks chris

Don't be revving it if you do start it up, just watch your oil pressure, and kill it once you have verified that its getting good pressure.

well... you could get a video camera out and try it! If anything you might eligable for the X-games as the first Ls1 engine to pull off a 360* HAHAHA

It only takes 5 seconds to slide the motor mount through bolts into the motor mounts.

5 seconds??? sorry but there is one or two on each side that were a bitch to get to even with a wrench....much less getting my hand back there to get the bolt started.

Just push the drivers side bolt through, dont tighten it down or put the nut on the other end. Then you could even rev the shiet out of it if you wanted to, once you get it started.

there is no nut....i only unbolted the motor mount from the k member. i left the bolts from the mount to the motor in place as well as the through bolt with the nut on it. i wouldnt have been able to get the through bolt out w/o takin the ac **** out.

Then reattach the drivers side mount, and you will be fine

Did you remove the motor mount OFF of the block? If so, there's no point in doing that.

All you have to do is remove the single long bolt that attaches the motor mount to the engine to k-member pedesetal on each side. The motor will then be able to lift off of the pedestals.

This is how I did it on a friend's car. No need/point in removing the entire motor mount off of each side of the block.
