Default What's the weakest link in a completely stock '00 LS1 block?

Just wondering what part of the bottom end goes first? If that part goes, what other parts can be damaged? Thanks.

Not really part of the bottom end, but the oil pump has problems, and that will screw your bottom end up.

So the weak-links I have heard are the Rod bolts, Oil pump and Pistons.

If all that was replaced and rebuilt it would make for a strong bottom end???

If so how much would it handle?

Hrm, I'm gonna have to say the weakest link is..........the nut holding the wheel !, anyone that tries to spin a STOCK bottom-end to ~7000rpm is just asking for trouble, these ARE incredibly strong engines, but there's a limit to what's possible on STOCK parts....but, if your bound and determined to spin it high enough that your worried about breaking something I'd have to place my money on it being the rod-bolts that'll give up first.......followed VERY quickly by most of the rest of the motor !!!. To me spinning it that high just to say I can do it is just not worth the chance of watching my motor go

Well again, I plan on running one of the bigger cams and right now its looking like the T-Rex cam, so what rod bolts and oil pump do you recommend? For that matter, what valvetrain and timing chaing to go with it? Ive had my MTI C2 cam (224./.581/112) in for a year and a half now running the stock chain and pump with 63k miles on them. Thanks.
