Default need help with porting

I am new to porting out heads. Anyone got any pics of home porting jobs. I need to see how much metal and where to take metal out in a set of 5.3 or 5.7 heads.

If you want a good head job, you’ll want someone with experience

ttt for ya. id like to see some advice on home porting also, i have an extra set of heads i want to try and port myself this winter. i know the best way is to send them to a professional, there's no arguing that, but i cannot afford the price of ls1 cylinder heads, and i figure i might be able to do just a simple cleanup on them

I posted cutaways of 6.0 heads not too long back. Not
much material to take away, I believe the flow gain is
more about art than about removal-in-bulk. Also see
some people just hogging away the "swirl ramp" and
others barely touch it; this I guess comes down to
whether these are "street torque heads that flow a
bit better" or "strip screamer heads, below 5000RPM
fuggedaboudit".

No idea how similar or dissimilar the 5.3 and 6.0 are,
aside from the chamber volume.

M6 Hugger, did you say those valves were 2.050 and 1.57? Did you change the seats yourself or have them done. Nice work!

I just got done with a set of 6.0L heads that I had milled .030 and all I really did was just a good cleanup. Just made smooth transitions everwhere I could and took out casting flaws. I found it's really hard to look at a set of ported heads and determine where to take material out. All the research I did lead me to just want to clean mine up and have a very good 3 angle valve job done. You will hurt your performance by going nuts with a grinder if you don't know what you're doing. I just ordered the standard abrasives porting kit and went through and cleaned up the rough areas and casting lines. I have not had the car back to the track since, but none of my porting work seems to have had an adverse affect on the car. I am not expecting huge gains but hope to go a little faster. That's my .02, hope it helps.
