It's a pretty rowdy cam with the MTI 7 liter packages, but it should still work in the 383 as long as you get it tuned properly. <img border="0" alt="[burn out]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_burnout.gif" />

For whatever cam of driveability you can deal with on a 346, add 4 degrees for every increase in 25CI to maintain that powerband and driveability level.
So if you can deal with a 224 on a 346, shoot for about 232 on a 383-393. If you can deal with a 230 on a 346, shoot for a 238 on a 383-393.
The 244 cam will "act" like a 236@.05" on a 346.
I think you owe it to yourself to get at least a mid 230's @.05 on the stroker.

Go for it! I put a pretty big cam in my 388 big bore (243/250 .610/.612 114 LSA) and idles great with tuning! I drive the car a lot on the street and it behaves fine for that big of a cam.

I just got my ARE 393 all bore put in the car, and I cant fire it up until the tranny gets here. It's got the same 232/236 cam I was running with the stock block. But I plan to do some experimenting with a much more aggresive cam, later in the year. Something in the 240 & up range.

How did you end up with something that small. Whoever picked it, (no offence to you) go kick em in the head that cam should have 230 on both sides atleast
yeah , its killing me , i asked the builder " is it going to be alot faster ? " he said oh yeah , but really its alot slower , im guessing 40 or 50 rwhp slower , read my sig , i cant figure it out , i dont even think the cam could make it that weak , there are now no builders in phoenix i trust , so im here and im close to picking a new cam , with the help of ls1tech , any other ideas ?

Re: anyone tried mti"s S1 cam grind in a lunati 383 stroker ?
holy crap 340rwhp??? something is WRONG!
I have a 382 stroker and have tried 2 cams in it.
1st.
224/224 .539 114lsa
448rwhp 339rwtq
idled like stock but ran strong
2nd.
236/232 .602/.575 112lsa
457rwhp 448rwtq
idles great and had a really nice chop to it
runs even stronger <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
these were both with locally ported heads, that I'm guessing flow about 280 at the most. don't ask me why I don't have flow sheets.... long bad story <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> .

We're going to dyno the car with some 103 octane to see what we can get out of it, basically one program for the street (using the weak 91 octane CA gas) and the other for race gas. I want good numbers but I realize I do have a fair amount of drivetrain lose (3.5" Cromoly Driveshaft, 12 bolt with 4.33's, McLeod Twin Disk clutch)so we'll see what happens.

i have a looong story too , those are nice #"s , where did you get your cam , ? and who suggested it ? are you an a4 ? with your first cam did you mean 439 rwtq ?
part of my story , after h/c , cam filings ( oh ****! , cam filings?? ) got stuck in the oil pump and made the bypass valve stay open , it was in rush hour traffic for 2 miles , freeway construction , no shoulder , 3 lanes down to 1 , it took 15 minutes to get to a shoulder , start it , move , shut it off coast ,
the next day i got it to the builder who created my wonderful 340rwhp masterpiece , believe or not it was with the help of a friend of his at lingenfelter , i cant believe any of this , so now i have to find the right combo , all help is appreciated , i have a feeling its more than just the cam <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" />

Re: anyone tried mti"s S1 cam grind in a lunati 383 stroker ?
The S1 is larger than I would personally install in a 382 stroker. It's not that it won't perform well, it's that it won't drive very well. If that is not an issue then try it out. My recommendation would be a 236/236 580ish 11X cam. I will have that grind available soon and I would expect it to perform very well in your 382.
