Default Comp R lifters??

What is the main difference between the Comp R lifters and stockers?? I heard that they're the same thing just not as suseptable(sp?) to collapsing. Any info you may have is appreciated.

They're a pain in the ***, they dont work right if set to the specs that Comp tells you to set them at, they're noisy. I'm going back to stock.

You should really do a search. Some people on the board like them, some people hate them. They're not hard to set, its just finding something that works. I've tried all the recommended settings and I still have valve float from hell at 5200 rpm. I followed the recommendation of a few members as well as some sponsors and I'm taking them out this saturday when I swap heads. There are people running stock lifters with 500rwhp on here, I figure my motor will do just fine on them.

Comp Rs aren't the only option for a high performance lifter- you can go with Morels ($450) if you want to upgrade from the stockers. Pricey, but they've been tested to all extremes and are extremely well made.

Ain't that the truth, It's hard to set the preload on the comp R's when your by your self and have no help turning the crank pully and trying to find TDC, I said F#$K it! and ripped them out and put in Comp 850-16's OEM type replacments. A sponcer on this boad recomended the comp R's to me. My bad for not knowing any better. But all's good now.

I think if setup properly these are suppose to be a great lifter, especially for high rpm super agressive lobe guys.

I was told to go between 1/8" to 1/4", more toward 1/4", on my preload. I did not measure it with an indicator but was told by Jason that this would be the key with the T&D Rockers. I guess I'll see this weekend.

I run a set and am making 738rwhp... but some shops say that you need to run more spring pressure to make them work.

I have been running a set of Crane doubles and am switching over to a set of Comp 977's to address what might be some valve float for me at 6500+. Prior to this new cam I was pulling to 7000 with no float at all and my valvetrain was not overly. I do think that running a cam with fast lobes mikght be noisy with Comp R's but I'm not sure. When I had a 422ci iron my comp s1 was noisier than my older lunati 242/242/114 cam.

I remember the only problem with the Comp R's was that you couldn't get the pre-load set properly with Yella Terra Rockers. You have to run adjustable rockers in order to get the pre-load right. But once the pre-load is set right you won't have any issues.
