After 3 pages of threads let me be one of the first to actually talk about the subject.

I've had the 5.3 Stage 2 Patriot Heads for about 9 months and I don't beleave they are that great. By adding the 224 cam, 5.3 PP Heads, SVO 30# Injectors and dyno tuning I only gained 50 hp. I run 12.3 at 110 in the quarter and people with the same cam and AFR or TEA Heads are running approximately .5 seconds quicker and 5 mph faster. Not to mention the fact that I was getting 17 mpg and now I'm lucky to see 11 mpg.

If you are going to spend the money, pay the $500 extra to give you the gains you really want.

Good Luck,

Al

Wow, no offense but I can't believe you are only running 12.3@110 on an 01 H/C & long tubed LS1. There are plenty of stock headed 224 cam'd guys that trap around 114. Doesn't really say to much for those heads, unless maybe your tune or something else is way off.

Also, as far as your gas mileage, only 11 mpg?? Damn, thats horrible..

I agree. I was running 12.8 at 105 with headers and a 3000 stall converter. I dynoed 50 more hp, 0.5 sec and 5 mph with the addition of a 3600 stall converter, FLP Tranny, 30# SVO Injectors, Lunati 224-560 @112 LSA Cam and PP 5.3 Stage 2 Heads. That was an expensive half second.

If it's any consolation the car seems the run real good and sounds mean.

I was thinking about getting a larger TB. This summer I want to try to get it down to 12.0 seconds with out spending to much cash. Does anyone else have any ideas for less than a grand. I wanted to stay away from NOS.

Good Luck,

I'm sorry to hear your not happy with your results from the Patriot heads. I gained 45 rwhp with the additon of the PP 5.3's. That was with a small 218/222 cam at the time. I put in a TSP 231/237 and gained another 10 rwhp. I'm happy to say the least. I have'nt taken my car back to the track with the next set up. I did run a 12.3 @ 111 with just the 218/222 cam making 360 rwhp.

I am looking into buying 5.3 heads myself. I would want to run it with a TR224 cam. I wonder if AKRA's case is common. If so I would probably want to avoid those heads. The price is hard to beat, but if they don't perform than its not worth it.

Mike-looks like you've had good success with them. i actually was hoping to get close to 450rwhp, but it looks like that won't happen unless i go to better heads and or a bigger cam...

It looks like your going to keep the car after all huh? I wss reading all of the BS over at Fast ls1 about it. I don't post over there any more. I would definately recommend the heads I have. Getting 450 rwhp is gonna mean having a much bigger cam, no cats, a cut out, LS6, LSX intake, and the Patriot LS6 style heads.

AKRA I can't tell that kind of exhaust you have from your sin. But I installed a small cam 218/224 112 and saw almost No gain at the track. I stalled a cut out and picked up a .5 sec. the flow master 40 was killing me. I trap 114 now n/a.
It may be your tune also, 11 mpg is not good. That is unless you got your foot it.
I was thinks about buy these too
But add a small 60 shoot of spray instead, SPRAY whales, good luck

here are links to the threads that i searched for...1st page btw...
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...heads+how+good
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...heads+how+good
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...heads+how+good (not really tech. related but says they are a good bang for the buck
2nd page
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...heads+how+good
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...heads+how+good
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...heads+how+good (little bit of info about ports being too small for his small cam)
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...heads+how+good
https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...heads+how+good
now that is a general search...and only the first two pages...you could go advanced search and find twice that much in the dyno section if you narrowed it down to just there...people really do not mind answering questions but they get annoyed when you ask uniformed questions that can be easily found by doing a simple search...THEN you ask questions on stuff you still don't understand...that is what the search and this site is supposed to be about...if it wasn't we wouldn't a have a HUGE database of old posts...they would get deleted after a few weeks...so with that being said "search then ask" then everyone will be happy...no one gets annoyed...server doesn't get cluttered...and you get your information

Ever notice how some people post just to say do a search and add to their post count? I mean, like on every single thread that they can't stand!!! I'd rather pay $1100 for 30 or so rwhp than $2200 for 35-40 rwhp, wouldn't you? My stock headed 224/228 6 speed full weight car has run 118.49. I'm almost afraid to buy heads.

It's all a gamble no matter what. I hate hearing about people that go slower after big mods. Sucks that Brian left TEA. He knows the deal.
