Question Replace Lifters????

I'll be doing a cam swap next month (yea for tax returns), and am wondering if I should change out my lifters as well. My car has 109,000 mile on it now and is definitely a daily driver. I'm going to get the F13 Futral cam. I already have pushrods and the stock rockers look fine.

Yeap, I would. Keep in mind you have to remove the heads to do so, this could give you an opportunity to freshen them up too and to maximise your quench with thinner gasket.

Ok. Sounds about right ot me. I looked on Futral's site and they have Comp, Crane and Melling lifters listed. The Comp OEM replacements are $195, The Cranes are $239, and the Melling's are $165. I've read that Prople have used the Comp ones, but can't find anything about the Mellings. (YES JRP I used the "Search Button")
For the money if the Mellings look the best, but If not then the Comps are for me

Prediator, What size gasket would you recommend. I looked throught the hugh descussion that is going on and can't come up with anything conrete. It would seem that a 0.45 Compressed would be pushing it a little. But, With the heads off I could measure How much the Piston comes out of the hole. Just trying to think of how to do that.

Also With the F13, I need to start wondering what the P-V clerance would be and Don't have the Money to start Fly-cuttin the Pistons and such. I have a '99 and can't seem to find info on the Compressed height of it's gasket. I see a lot of info on the MLS, but not on these.

I believe 99 had graphite gaskets with .054 thickness.
Call Allen Futral to make sure about PVC but FM 13 is not as tight in clearances as some other cams. I think a .045 (compressed) cometic would do but I'm not sure. That is assuming your heads are untouched (not milled)

My pistons came out .070, but stock motors can variate a little (usually in that range though) > (.05>.08)

The heads are untouched. I might go ahead and get them cleaned (not vated. might just do myself) and a 3 angle valve job done. I'll be able to change springs really easily now, and can also check the valves out. Could probably get a slightly used set of stock ones cheaply. But everything is going to have to wait until payday.

I'd change them if you have the money. I'd go for the Morel's if you have the extra money to spare on the lifters. If not I vote for the OEM ones

Well I got a hold of Allan at Futral. He recomended the Mellings. Said that he has used them alot in his builds. Allan is a great guy to talk to about cams and valvetrains. All said and done he has earned my business.
