Default Mr Gasket .042 Head gasket...

Talked to Mr Gasket Tech dept today and they told me that their head gaskets part # 5713G & 5714G ( right & left side) are .042 compressed thickness, but are for a 4.000 bore. Other than loosing a bit of compression what are the consequences of using this gasket on a stock bore? Would quench be effected? They list these as being for 97 & up. Has anyone used these gaskets on heads that have that slot cast into them?

h/c swap on my 04 C5 and these gaskets were identical to the stockers, as far as bore diameter. difference was mls were .054 compressed and these are .042, as you stated. not sure of your slot question, but gaskets worked great for me, and it was the only part i have put on the car that was reasonably priced $18/ea. measure piston above deck subtract from compressed will give you quench. i ended up with .035

Hmmm...identical to stockers bore size. Did you measure it or eyeball it?

That's great news. My next question is where did you get them. I've been on-line all day looking for them. ( Sponsers,Summit,Jegs, etc) Lot of websites say they have them but when you call, they tell you they have to be special ordered with no ship date promised.

That was one of the first links I tried. They don't have them and don't know how long it will take to get them. Thanks for the info though. I'll keep searching tomorrow.

Guys......the Mr. Gasket 5713g/5714g is NOT (I repeat NOT) .042" thick!

I searched and searched, and after a huge ordeal got a set. I specifically wanted a .042" gasket to raise the comp. up to 10.5. All these are is a repackaged Victor-Reinz graphite gasket PN 5975/5976. It's IDENTICAL to the GM graphite gasket which is also a VR gasket. The uncompressed thickness is .057". Now I'm ******* pissed cause I could've got them from NAPA or the dealer way easier and cheaper!

After head removal these gaskets measured .043 compressed with 3.90 bore, not 4.00 as stated above

Have one right here. Mic'd the stock GM graphite, the Mr Gasket/VR and the MLS to compare. The GM and MG/VR graphites are identical except the GM has their own PN on it versus the 5975/6 stamped on the other.

Just had to vent since these took me a week to get with the car torn apart only to have them turn out to be the same damn one I could've got at the dealer when I got the head bolts. Either Mr Gasket or one of the guys here posting about them has been smoking some bad ****.

you miced them UNcompressed. they both will measure the same. i have the same VR gaskets sitting in my toolbox at work. was going to use them. but went with the MRgasket ones instead. i called VR directly about the VR brand ones. they will only compress .003-.005 at max. according to the VR tech. i had vinci mic both sets. they came up the same UNcompressed. it's all in how the material used compresses. we alos measured the stock GM head gaskets when pulled off. about .052 compressed. yes VR makes them for MRgasket.

Yes, I mic'd the GM gaskets compressed and the new Mr. Gasket/VR one uncompressed. That's what I was figuring .003-.005" when compressed.

The 5713g is .057" UNcompressed and the GM graphite is .054 compressed. Hence, the same.

it's the MRGasket version that's different. we also measured it at .057" thick uncompressed. but, many have measured it compressed to find it right at or very near the .042" compressed as advertised. the GM and VR will only compress .003-.005. the MRgasket will compress more. you'll just have to trust us, or waste one finding out for yourself.

I have used three sets on various upgrades, two sets that I measured were 3.90 bore with compressed thickness of .043, and 1fastws6 I'm not smoking anything.

You know, on a side note, the other bizzarre thing is that Mr. Gasket also has a line of MLS gaskets for the LS1. In the catalog, they're labeled as LS1 350 gaskets and are .045" thick I believe. But the bore sizes offered were like 4.135, 4.145, and 4.155?? What the hell are those for? Sounds like they need to pull their head out.

Do you remember if they had a VR stamped on them? Maybe they've given us the 'ol reach-around and switched suppliers? How long ago did you get them and from where?
