Had The **** Scared Out of Me While Installing Heads I was making my final torque pass (75 ft lbs) on my ARP head bolts. While turning the torque wrench I heard a loud "Pop". Well since there has been a thread floating around about a broken ARP head bolt I guess I was little paranoid. I turned again and another "Pop". Finially I noticed a 1" crack in my socket. On my way to Sears to get it replaced. I'm glad there is a lifetime warranty on Craftsman tools. I'm going to change my underware first though.

dont worry.. in the years ive been hearing about ARP bolts, the first headbolt failure ive heard of is from someone torquing them to 170+ somthing ft-lbs... as long as you're installing them even halfway close to what they say, you're fine.
oh and if you're TQing stuff like that, be sure to use a 6pt socket on 6pt bolts, and 12pt ones on 12pt bolts.... makes it less likely to break or strip, and gives a more accurate reading...

i had the same thing happen torqing the stock head bolts down last year. broke a socket. then the socket extension. granted it was with shitty kmart socket set. happy thats all it was for ya
