The plastic lifter guide is made to hold them up. Once you take the rockers, pushrods and chain off, just spin the cam a few tims to push them up. But if you want added insurance, you can use 16 cheap pen magnets. Only problem with the pen magnets is sometimes the glue breaks and the magnet end stays on the lifter, which can be hard to retrieve. Or better yet, push a dowel rod into each lifter oil galley. I'm not sure what size to use (1/2 inch?,) but I'm sure someone else will chime in on that.

I am using a 5/16 steel rod from Home Depot about 18" long. I found a dwg a few weeks ago off this site. Try a search.

We used 5/16 wood dowl rod from Menards. Total spent, 0.79. Not having to fish lifters out ofthe oil pan, priceless.

Dumb question, I assume if the dowel rod does not make it to the back of the block, a lifter is not up all the way?

I was told you need to spin the cam until the lifters stay up to get the rod in.
I hope I do not have any problems in a couple of weeks when I do my cam.

6>10 quick ones with the chain/sprocket/rockers/p-rods off, then insert the rods.
